For SCK’s 18 year anniversary, we’re sharing interviews with all the current SCK staff so you can find out a little more about the people behind the blog.
Nicolette has technically been around since the very beginning, though never as a full team member. She was our events person in London for a few years and now helps out occasionally with posts about crafts, fashion and sharks. You can read all of Nicolette’s SCK posts or find her on Instagram @jijipunch.

Introduce yourself!
Hi I’m Nicolette, big sister of Marceline! I live in Glasgow and work as a laboratory assistant. I like to try new crafts and have a lot of unfinished projects!
Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t guess from your SCK posts
Sharks and sea creatures are my favourite animals and I’m glad there are more kawaii sharks around as they are such fantastic animals. I have an honours degree in Marine Biology and even volunteered at a local aquarium for a while.

How did you become interested in kawaii culture?
Probably through gaming. I loved my original Game Boy and was obsessed with Pokemon and Pikachu! When Marceline and I used to visit London we would always go look at all the Pocket Monsters stuff in the Japan Centre and Sanrio character goods in Harrods.

What cute products or characters can you never resist adding to your kawaii collection?
I love all the Rilakkuma characters, especially Kogumachan! I bought a mini plush in Japan who travels with me and I love to add to his clothing collection. You can see some of his outfits at #SCKbears on Instagram.

What are your favourite crafts or creative hobbies?
I love to sew and have made a lot of cool things using felt. I recently got gifted a second hand sewing machine and I’m excited to create my own kawaii outfits and bags. The cutest thing I made recently is a fox cushion which I made from a latch hook kit. It took me about 5 years on and off to finish it and I think it looks adorable! I’d like to try doing my own pattern one day as I found latch hooking really fun to do.
