It’s another edition of SCK Tries where we try out a DIY to see how it works in real life and whether we’d recommend you give it a go. This time it’s a pink gingham woven tote bag kit from Craft Club.
The Original DIY

I’m a sucker for a cute bag and had seen Craft Club’s woven tote bag kits on social media before receiving it as my Christmas present last year. It took me a while to decide on a design as they are all adorable but settled on the pink & white gingham as I don’t have a small bag in those colours and it seemed an easier pattern to follow than some of the others!
Kit Contents & Materials

The kit comes with the plastic base, 3 balls of feather yarn, needles, silky thread, needle threader, stitch markers, leather-style top handles, cross-body chain strap, canvas bag and fixings. There is also a bag charm included which is different with every kit. Mine was pink crocheted flowers.
Process
The kit comes with a pattern for you to draw onto the plastic base. This was probably the most tedious part but is required so you don’t mess up the design.

All the instructions are on the website as walkthrough videos. It was helpful to show the process of each step but could get confusing trying to find the correct part of the video and some parts I had to watch a few times to understand what I was supposed to be doing.

The gingham pattern was reasonably simple to follow and I enjoyed sewing with the fluffy yarn. I did make a mistake with the pattern on the sides but as the colours were quite similar I didn’t think it was an issue.

I also made a stupid mistake when attaching the top handles and there was not enough silky thread left to redo them. Luckily I found some pink wool in my stash and actually liked the pop of pink on the handles. I finished the bag by attaching the magnetic closure, gold nameplate and D-rings for the chain strap, added the bag charm and it was done!
The End Result

The bag turned out so cute! The ends of the yarn are loose inside so the kit includes a drawstring canvas bag to act as a lining which works well. It’s big enough for the essentials and perfect for the summer.

I would definitely recommend this craft kit as the end result looks so professional and there are lots of different designs to choose from.

Craft Club ships worldwide from Australia and they have lots more cute woven tote bag kits available, as well as rugs, coasters, cushions and pouches using latch hook, weaving and other yarn techniques.
