San-X have a new character joining the gang this month! According to the launch page, Kumausa is a rabbit with a big body like a bear that always has a “moyamoya” (a hazy puff of smoke or cloud) on their chest.
The moyamoya seems to be a metaphor for worries and problems and more appear when Kumausa is feeling down. Luckily, they have a little fluffy pink bunny friend Tomopu who helps to blow the moyamoya away. It’s such a sweet idea and the characters will hopefully give some comfort to anyone who has issues with anxiety or depression, or especially with identity and body image as Kumausa keeps trying to make their ears look more like a bear.
The products launch on Saturday at 10am JST in the San-X shop (JP – requires forwarding service), along with new Rilakkuma & Sumikko Gurashi collections and Halloween plush, so check the previews, make a list and set your alarm. There’s a lot of Kumausa plushies, from huggable to keyring size. Tomopu gets a couple too and they look so adorably fuzzy.
There’s a bit of a self care theme going on too with a bunny ear headband and some pouches for storage. I love this drawstring pouch!
For some reason I still don’t understand, San-X don’t sell most of their stationery items online but I really need these stickers. They’re sure to turn up at San-X resellers around the world over the next few months so use our shopping guide to find one near you.
