Jinbe San the kawaii whale shark has fitted in so well with the other San-X characters that it feels like he’s been around forever. 2020 is only his 5th anniversary though so here’s some cute things to buy or DIY.
Obviously the best way to celebrate is with a cake hat! If you’re living in Japan, you can enter a contest for a free wallpaper and a chance to win one of these plushies. All you need to do is buy something from the latest product range.
The collection is called Jinbe and Hoshizora Penguin and introduces some new magical space penguins that turn Jinbe San all sparkly. The penguins and pastel space theme are so cute and you can download free wallpapers at that link. It’s only just been released so there’s still plenty plush, stationery and accessories in the San-X Japan shop (requires a forwarding service) and you should see some on VeryGoods (Japan – ships worldwide) soon.
If you’re new to Jinbe San, you can buy cute stuff from shops around the world that ship internationally. Stationery is the easiest to find with stickers, notepads, washi tape and more available from Cute Things From Japan (Japan), Modes4u (Hong Kong), Kawaii Panda (EU) and ShopKawaii (USA).
If you prefer to DIY, try this super cute Jinbe San squishy tutorial by ChelseyDIY.
Or make your own Jinbe San tank with peachiesprojects using polymer clay and resin. If you’re experienced with polymer clay crafting, it would be easy to adapt this to add some of his new friends too.
