There have been plenty of moments where I’m regretful that I’m not as strong in a craft skill as I’d like to be — or that I don’t have the skill at all! — but now more than ever I regret not being more consistent with sewing after discovering TSminibears on Etsy.
Based in Ukraine and specializing in miniature plushes, the shop sells everything from fabrics to patterns, and full kits for sewing tiny kawaii animal plush. The kits are a bit higher in price than what sewing kits normally run, but they include all the materials you need — including the specialty fabric — to make the project, along with a printed version of the PDF pattern, instructions, and a video tutorial. I want one of everything, but I’ll force myself to choose only a few favorites for the sake of post length!
The Kits section offers the widest selection of animals, and I really appreciate the variety and how they’re all really cute! The axolotl plush kit has to be one of my favorites because of the rainbow gills!
I’m also a turtle fiend, so I’m also absolutely in love with the turtle plush kit. It’s so cute and reminds me of a sea turtle. One of the things that I love about these plushes is that they’re so tiny!
Due to their size, I do feel like they’re more suitable for more experienced seamstresses. Most of the kits, like the kit for the red panda plush, range between 9 and 12 cm. But it definitely inspires me to want to sew more and aspire to reach a skill level where I’d feel comfortable buying these!
If the full kit prices are a bit much, the shop also offers a slightly smaller range of digital PDF patterns that are much more affordable. They’re also really convenient if you have your own materials and fabrics that you’d like to customize the design with! There’s still quite a variety of animals in the patterns section, though, and they even have a stegosaurus pattern. The patterns come with video tutorials as well.
I know we’re nowhere near Halloween, but it’s never too early to prepare — making a plush using the bat pattern is would be a fun way to enjoy the less spooky side of Halloween year round!
And if you feel like you need a lot of instruction, there are a select few patterns — like this crazy cute bunny plush pattern — that include a video tutorial for the pattern along with detailed videos on things like dying the fabric, constructing patterns, and a lot of other information on making your own professional teddy bears.
