TokyoTreat & Sakuraco Snack Box Highlights

by

TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes, themed around Akihabara and Okinawa, which are both available now. Look out for a special discount at the end too!

TokyoTreat – Akiba Snack Quest

Akihabara, or Electric Town, is filled with anime, idols, gaming, maid cafes, and so much more. Let TokyoTreat give you a taste of Akiba with their fun and exclusive Japanese snack subscription box. It’s filled with limited-edition KitKats, specialty-flavoured Japanese chips, seasonal treats, and occasional sodas that are only available in Japan for a limited time. This month there are 13 different sweet and savoury items, including a full size bag of KitKats and vegan ramen, plus a colour booklet. 3 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians.

Emma’s Favourites

  • Cookies & Cream KitKats – White the initial creamy white chocolate was pretty sweet, I like that it balanced out with the more darker biscuit-y flavour towards the end
  • Nomu Nomu Jelly Drink – This was absolutely delicious, especially cold from the fridge. I loved the easy to drink jelly texture and the soda flavour. Very refreshing on a hot day!
  • CRUNKY Chocolate Balls – I love CRUNKY and these salted caramel ones are no exception. I love the mix of salty and sweet and these are the perfect sweet snack.
  • Vegan Potage Ramen – I was surprised at how creamy the broth was but how light it tasted. I enjoyed the flavour and added some fresh greens as shown on the packaging to balance it out too and really enjoyed it.
  • Ramune Candy – These whistle candies are such fun (make sure you blow through the middle to make the whistling sound) and I’m a sucker for cola flavour too which was a pleasant surprise. The flavour is strong and the chalky candy texture almost melts in the mouth.

Sakuraco – Flavors of Okinawa

This month you can experience Hokkaido’s culinary landscape, which is filled with fruits, dairy and seafood. Each monthly Sakuraco box contains 20 traditional, authentic, and artisan Japanese snacks from local snack makers across Japan, including Japanese teas, a special Japanese tableware item and a full colour booklet. For this month’s box, there’s Hokkaido Azuki tea and beautiful ceramic kobachi bowl. 2 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians (cookies, senbei).

Marceline’s Favourites

  • Okinawa Pineapple Jelly – a bag of 8 bite-sized mini jellies that are very juicy with a strong pineapple flavour. Very refreshing on a hot day.
  • Okinawa Mango Pie – the mango flavour isn’t very strong but adds a little sweetness to these very crisp and flaky layered pastries.
  • Beni Imo Senbei – cutely-packaged rice crackers decorated with a bright purple sweet potato glaze for a salty-sweet flavour.
  • Kokuta Sora Mame – broad beans in a crunchy brown sugar coating maybe doesn’t sound too appetising but you’d never guess these weren’t nuts.
  • Sanpin Tea – I don’t generally drink iced tea but tried the suggestion in the booklet and really enjoyed it. It’s not bitter at all with light floral hints from jasmine.
