Spooky season is here and a creepy cookie or biscuit is a much more exciting trick-or-treat surprise than a little bit of chocolate. Here are a few to keep saved for when you’re in the need of monsters, ghouls and pumpkins galore.

I love a sandwich biscuit and these Jack O’ Lantern cookies from The Little Blog of Vegan are the perfect combination of chocolate biscuit and orange filling. The oozing caramel makes these spooky pumpkins look like they’re glowing from inside.

Monsters take many forms, even cookie form, including these Halloween cookies from School Night Vegan with three flavours ‘stitched’ together. Or The Flavour Bender has deep chocolate monsters with googly eyes.

These Halloween spritz cookies by My Sequined Life are so tiny! I think these could be left coloured but undecorated for a simpler take, but the eyes and icing give them a bit more personality. They do need a special press to make, but you could also use them as decor inspiration for cookies made with a mini cutter instead.

A witch needs a cauldron, but I need a whole batch of these incredible sprinkle-filled cauldron macarons from Pies and Tacos. The splatter of Halloween colours over emulate a well used cauldron for all kinds of potions and the sprinkles inside of the potion currently bubbling away. There are a few options of how you can make the windows, which is detailed in the recipe, and there’s an included video too.

If you’re looking for a more traditional biscuit recipe, then these ghosts, pumpkins and bats from Whitakers Chocolates are an easy to make cut out recipe. You can then decide how detailed to make them with whatever icing you like.

These thick chocolate cookies from Sugar Salt Magic look like they have a monster hiding inside of them and come in a variety of bright colours. The contrast between the dark chocolate cookie and the neon filling AND the addition of eyes make them a very fun party piece.

Back For Seconds gives the thumbprint cookie a Halloween upgrade with the addition of seasonal sprinkles. The dough includes peanut butter and the centre chocolate which makes for a delicious combination of flavours.

Gluten-free ghosts come in linzer cookie form from The Gluten Free Austrian and even though they come sandwiched with blood red raspberry jam, they still look very cute indeed.
