It’s another edition of SCK Tries, where we try out a DIY to see how it works in real life and whether we’d recommend you give it a go. This time I’m trying an adorable felt stegosaurus dinosaur plush sewing pattern from Typing With Tea.
The Original DIY

There are quite a few kawaii plush patterns in the Typing With Tea Etsy shop. I chose the stegosaurus and received a PDF pattern and instructions immediately after purchase. Although I am not experienced with sewing, I felt this was a perfect opportunity to combine my love of crafts with cute plushies.
Materials & Process

The materials needed are actually very few. You will need 4 colors of felt sheets, 2 safety eyes, 3 colors of embroidery thread, an embroidery needle, a chunk of polyester fiber fill, and the pattern (of course).

If you have curious kitties like I do, I recommend keeping your pieces on a tray so that you can put it out of their reach when you’re not working on it.

This project taught me many new stitch types (I found this Youtube video very helpful). You can see that I had difficulty keeping the blanket stitch tight, which became noticeable once I started stuffing him.
The End Result

The finished stegosaurus turned out cho kawaii! My biggest problem was when I discovered that our kitten Adora made off with a spike that I have yet to discover. I had to make another one, so I recommend you keep the pattern pieces until you are completely finished.

I used my newly learned backstitch to embroider my daughter’s name onto her new friend, which added a special touch. This stegosaurus is fun size for playing with or adding to a kawaii display and I recommend you give it a go.
Have a look at the Typing With Tea Etsy shop to see all the kawaii sewing patterns.
