Cute Bugs To Buy & DIY

June 4th is Mushi no Hi, or Bug Day, in Japan. With spring in full swing, it is an excellent time to celebrate these underrated creatures. My daughter’s nickname is Bug and we are working hard to teach her that bugs are our kawaii friends.

Many bugs are beneficial and you can give them a helping hand by creating a DIY Bug Hotel for your garden or balcony. Because you can use materials you have on hand, you can build it in your own kawaii style. I love a tiny “vacancy” sign. There’s a general tutorial at OBN or a more specific tutorial (meaning you need tools) by Crafty Little Gnome. You can attract and feed pollinators by planting flowers from this list. Add them to your garden space or pop one or two like calendula or cosmos into a miniature fairy garden – you can use my recent tutorial for a Totoro fairy garden.

While you are waiting for your bugs to come visit, you can add adorable bright bugs to any space or flowerpot with painted rock bugs. I Love Painted Rocks has lots of ideas – this ladybug with kawaii eyes is adorable.

Buggles are a cute craft toy that are catching on in popularity. Making Life Blissful has an easy DIY to create your own set, and sells a kit too. I would glue a magnet on the back and have these cuties climb my refrigerator.
