TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes for sakura season which are available now – look out for a special discount below!

TokyoTreat – Sakura Nights Snackfest

TokyoTreat brings the hanami experience to you, and this time we’re enjoying yozakura, or nighttime cherry blossoms. Experience a lantern lit picnic under the sakura trees while tasting your way through this fun and exclusive Japanese snack subscription box. Each monthly box is filled with limited-edition KitKats, specialty-flavoured Japanese chips, seasonal treats, and occasional Japanese sodas that are only available in Japan for a limited time. This month there are 13 different sweet and savoury items, including a full size bag of KitKats and instant noodles, plus a colour booklet. Vegetarians may need to skip or share this one as 6 items are not veggie-friendly.

Emma’s Favourites

  • Sakura Sandwich Cookies – I’ve actually had these buttery sakura cookies before and loved them, so I was thrilled to see them featured in the box.
  • Perfect Ponzu Soup – This was a delicious snack and surprisingly refreshing for a hot noodle soup. I think the citrus based broth really helped with that and it made for the perfect dish to transition from the cold weather to warmer.
  • Springtime Senbei – I’m a sucker for a sweet & salty snack and this honey soy sauce senbei had the perfect combination.
  • Sweet & Sour Gummies – Super juicy and fruity, but with a slightly sour kick. I wish there had been more!
  • Sakura Matcha Wafers – The perfect mix of sweet sakura notes and slightly bitter matcha. Far too easy to eat…

Sakuraco – Moonlit Sakura

Treat yourself or a loved one and experience the beauty of night time cherry blossom viewing with a box of Sakuraco snacks. Each monthly box contains 20 traditional, authentic, and artisan Japanese snacks from local snack makers across Japan, including Japanese teas, a special Japanese tableware item and a full colour booklet. For this month’s box, there’s sakura hibiscus tea and a pretty handcrafted sakura wagashi ceramic plate. 2 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians (shrimp arare/senbei).

Marceline’s Favourites

  • Sakura Madeleine – delicious moist cake with a very unique flavour of sakura and strawberry that matches perfectly with the tea.
  • Sakura Chocolate Cookie – crisp but crumbly biscuit with an almond flavour and pink chocolate coating.
  • Sakura Cream Cookie – the prettiest sakura printed cookies sandwiched with sweet sakura cream.
  • Sakura Dorayaki – fluffy pancakes with a sweet bean filling infused with sakura leaves.
  • Sakura Shrimp Senbei – I’m not usually a fan of shrimp snacks but these don’t have a fishy taste and are even pink with visible sakura leaves.
