Hangyodon is one of my favorite Sanrio characters, I think it has to do with his color palette and how goofy he is. It’s his birthday today, as well as being his 40th anniversary this year – I didn’t even realize he’d been around that long! So if you’re a fan I’ve picked out some of his cutest merch.
I think this Best Mates plush is really adorable, which you can find at JapanLA (US). Sayuri, the red octopus, is Hangyodon’s best friend. This also comes in a keychain version.
Another plush I liked was this Lovely Birthday Doll with its kawaii twist on Hangyodon’s coloring, it even has heart shaped blush for his cheeks. You can get it in small, medium, or a keychain from Meccha Japan (JP).
For bags we’ve got a couple of options: a plush ita bag from JapanLA (US) , and a zipped shoulder bag from the Hello series at ARTBOX (UK)
I’m kind of in love with this clear cassette-style vintage retro pouch at at VeryGoods (JP) and they also stock a bigger plaid pouch, perfect for makeup or other accessories.
Or add Hangyodon to any pouch with these Zipperbites at Sanrio (US) that easily attach to any zipper with a pull tab hole.
There’s an awesome exclusive Spirit Jersey at JapanLA (UK), like the ones from Disney, which is on sale right now. It has a fun tie dye design and Hangyodon’s name in big, bright orange letters.
For a cute little kitchen accessory, I found this ceramic bowl at VeryGoods (JP) to be a particularly pretty shade of blue. Hangyodon is also chilling on the inside rim and there’s a little fish cake hiding at the bottom.
And if you’re visiting Japan I hope you’re able to make it to Hangyodon’s 40th anniversary pop up cafe! It has a sakura-themed menu, plus exclusive merch and visits a few cities across Japan in April.
