Lunar New Year starts next week and 2025 will be the year of the snake. If you’d like to make something to celebrate, I’ve searched up some craft tutorials and patterns with kawaii snakes.
Let’s start with some origami and I love this simple zodiac snake from Kyoko Tsujimoto which can be folded in many different designs using the same tutorial. The channel also has a more traditional snake figurine, which you might recognise from games like Animal Crossing.
kamikey origami also has a couple of snake patterns and this snake wreath would be perfect for a decoration, or to stick on a card with the year or a message in the middle.

This Witchy Snake in the Garden cross stitch pattern from The Bad Witch Crafts looks like a quick project and you can leave out the skull border if you prefer to keep things cute. There’s plenty of free alphabets online if you want to add the year too.

I love a biscornu as they make great pincushions and look much more complicated than they really are. This Year of the Snake pattern by Siren Stitchworks looks really striking in traditional red and gold but you could also use pastel colours for a more kawaii version.

For embroidery, this Patchwork Patterned Snake design by bloom and floss is so cool and a good way to practise different stitches. It would be lovely to work on a section each day and see it grow. There’s another snake design with flowers too.

Crocheters have lot of cute options but it’s hard to resist Simon the Snake from DIY Fluffies. It’s an easy beginner-friendly crochet pattern that’s available both as a free pattern or a paid formatted ad-free pattern.
I also love this crochet snake from Ohana Craft that comes in 2 sizes and wraps around your arm! It’s also beginner friendly and you can follow the video tutorial or buy the crochet pattern
And for something different, try soap carving! Mizutama Soap always has such creative ideas and the tutorials make it look easier than you imagined. It would certainly be an amazing gift or bathroom decoration.
Have a look at our Lunar New Year posts for more general ideas, plus other shops and channels that might have added a snake design this year.
