One of my Nintendo Switch joycons finally gave up after multiple fixes so Christmas came early for me and I now have a shiny new Switch 2! The only downside is that now I need to buy a new case and screen protector if I’m going to take it out of the house. If you’re also looking for cute accessories, here’s some of my favourite cases, controllers and more.
Most of my picks are official Nintendo collabs as you know you’ll get a high quality product and can return it if there’s any issues. Japanese brand HORI has the most incredible – and huge! – range of accessories featuring Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario and more. If you need extra controllers, or prefer a different fit or features, there’s wired, wireless and split pad options. The cases come in multiple different styles for indoor and outdoor use, all with useful pockets inside. I am dying over the Ditto & Kirby plush pouches, but the Eevee Cottage Core range is also adorable. HORI have an official Amazon store (UK/US) but you might need to do a full site search as well to find everything.
I also have to highlight their Sanrio collection with matching controllers, decoration kits (with stickers and screen cleaner) and plushie pouches for Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll and Kuromi. The controllers have a special detail on the sticks with little faces appearing when you move them so click through to see! This is Japan-only but Meccha Japan (JP) has everything and ship internationally.
Sonix (US) also have a Sanrio collab for Nintendo Switch cases, with lots of different characters, plus designs with Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears and Monchhichi. These are a great value basic case with a soft shell, carry handle, padded screen protector and game storage.
I’ve bought a few PowerA controllers over the years as they don’t last forever, but they’re also very affordable and extremely cute. Their upcoming Ditto controller is going to be hard to resist and there’s a matching case too, plus Kirby, Pokemon, Mario and Zelda designs. Have a browse of their official Amazon store (UK/US)
I’m also eyeing up the controllers at Turtle Beach’s official Amazon store (UK/US) as they have some really kawaii designs. The pastel Starry Dream (bottom right) is my favourite but there’s also some cool rainbow designs and all the main Nintendo characters.
I’m not really into group gaming but if you want to chat with friends, HORI (yes, them again!) have cute options. The Piranha Plant camera (UK/US) is amazing – and a lot cheaper than I expected. They also have Animal Crossing headsets (UK/US), plus a lot of other brands’ gaming headsets are compatible.
If you like a handmade pouch, NewdayshopDesign (UK) has some sweet quilted carrying cases, that are padded for extra protection and have card storage and poppers. Since they’re handmade to order, you can choose from 48 vintage-style patterns with ribbons, flowers, gingham and more, plus a size to fit whichever Switch you have.
Or make your own with any fabric you like, using Fierce Kitten’s portable gaming console case sewing pattern. It’s suitable for intermediate sewists, and includes all pattern pieces for both Switch 1 & 2, plus full instructions and video tutorial. I love all the Zelda fabrics they’ve used for the examples too.
What are your favourite Switch 2 games? I’m stuck between picking up Ocarina of Time or Pokopia but currently just playing Picross S9 and thinking about restarting Tears of the Kingdom again.
