Let’s have a look at what’s coming up at Japanese kawaii brand San-X for December. There’s new themes for Rilakkuma, Sumikko Gurashi & Sugarcocomuu, plus cute snakes for the new year. Shopping links and info is at the end of the post and the collection pages also have free wallpapers.
The latest Rilakkuma theme invites you to join the gang in their Lovely Home and, well, PLEASE? This looks like my dream life as all they do is relax, eat, play and nap. All the furniture looks like them too and I love their lounging outfits, especially Rilakkuma’s fluffy socks.
There’s a lot of little plushies of the friends and their furniture which you can even arrange in a special order plush house! The larger plushies are adorable too and look so soft and fluffy. You’ll also find cute stationery and many useful items for your home like a vanity case, trinket dish, mug, teapot, aroma diffusers, and a house-shaped glasses case.
Sugarcocomuu, the sweet cotton candy rabbit born from sugar, is back with a new Sweet Memory Time collection. It’s mostly a continuation of the debut with the same soft illustration style and group of sweets-themed characters. I really love them all and they feel like an even cuter replacement for Sanrio’s neglected Sugarbunnies.
I’m very tempted by all the beautiful stationery and there’s also plushies in all sizes and some pretty bags and pouches. The cookie bear is still my favourite but those sleepy plush are so cute too.
Sumikko Gurashi’s latest theme is a collab with Sakuma Strawberry Milk Candy that’s perfect for strawberry fans. I need to focus on the Tapitapi Mart theme from November instead, which sadly got a bit lost when the San-X shop was offline for weeks. I’m always a sucker for kawaii food and convenience stores and love pretty much everything here. There’s lots of foodie plush of course with the Sumikkos as popular konbini snacks. You’ll also find some amazing stationery (I need the pencil caps!) and bags.
And finally, it’s almost 2025 when we’ll be celebrating the year of the snake. Snakes are not usually a kawaii go-to animal but Rilakkuma and friends look very cute dressed up in snake costumes, especially Korilakkuma. These are limited edition and have the year embroidered on the back. How do you think these compare to the 2013 version?
How to buy San-X
All the products for December are in the San-X shop now but you’ll need to use a forwarding service outside Japan. Otherwise you need to keep an eye on resellers. AmiAmi (JP) does pre-orders before release, Meccha Japan (JP) does both pre-order and in stock items, while Very Goods (JP) usually add most items within a few days or weeks. International shops can take longer, from weeks to many months – we recommend Cuteness (EU – also do preorders), ARTBOX (UK) and Oshoppu (UK). Use our guide to The Best Kawaii Shops Worldwide for more options (sadly most US shops mainly stock San-X products made for the US market) or search on Ebay and Amazon Japan.
