Our favourite kawaii characters are ready for the holidays so let’s look at the cutest plushies from San-X, Sanrio, Pokemon, Disney and lots more.
The Pokemon Center (UK/US) have a Heartwarming Christmas theme this year with everyone looking very cosy in wooly jumpers and scarves. Pikachu, Maushold & Shaymin are the featured characters for large plush while there’s a few different keychain size and a Wooloo pouch. You’ll also find tons more cute stuff including ornaments, home decor, kitchenware, pins, pyjamas, and some quite affordable ‘ugly’ sweaters. Availability depends on your region.
San-X have taken a different route this year with Rilakkuma Ornament Christmas. There’s no large plush – they’re all mini tenori size and designed to be attached to the matching Christmas tree wall hanging – or on your tree. I think these are all adorable, especially the bunny and fluffy snowbear. I’ve been holding this post back as San-X had to take their website down for a week and now sadly most things are out of stock online (JP – requires forwarding service). You can find a few at Meccha Japan & VeryGoods (both JP), along with past years’ designs.
The Sumikko Gurashi Christmas at Home plush are equally cute and I am gutted to have missed out on the snowman. Use the same links as above to buy what’s left.
Sanrio Japan have dressed Hello Kitty & Friends up as Santa, reindeer and snowmen this Christmas, all with festive hats. You can buy them all via Meccha Japan (JP). We’ll have another post with all the Sanrio USA collections and collabs – and don’t miss out on the holiday collection at Build-A-Bear (global) which has some super cute outfits as well as the special plush.
Disney Japan (JP – requires forwarding service) has a huge collection of cute Christmas plush, decorations, gifts and much more, which you won’t find in the US or UK stores. The wreath and tree are especially good for decorating and even though I’m not a big Disney fan, I’d definitely be tempted by all the Tsum Tsums. You can also find these on VeryGoods (JP).
Jellycat (UK/EU/US) continue to come up with the most fun designs for Christmas plush, which are available in all different sizes from keychain to giant. I would love to add a gingerbread house (and cookies) to my display but there’s also hilarious costumed versions of their most popular characters, festive food and some very fluffy animals. Some plush are sold out online but you may be able to find them at Jellycat stockists (it’s worth looking up your nearest one just to go and squeeze them all in person!).
Smoko (US) have gone all out for the holidays and their Winter Wonderland collection is full of huggable festive Tayto Potatoes! There’s also a plush wreath, mini ornament blind boxes, light, snowglobe and even a Miffy stocking.
I miss the EU Kakao Friends shop so much as the main store doesn’t seem to ship outside Korea. It’s definitely worth having a browse of their Christmas collection though as there’s so many adorable plushies, along with decorations, homeware and loungewear. If you fall in love with something, there are quite a few Korean Kakao Friends sellers on Ebay with reasonable prices.
Which is top of your wish list?
