TokyoTreat & Sakuraco Snack Box Highlights

by

TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes, themed around Osaka & Hiroshima, which are both available now. Look out for a special discount at the end too!

TokyoTreat – Osaka Snacktacular

Osaka is known as ‘Japan’s Kitchen’ and you can grab a taste of the vibrant street food scene with TokyoTreat. It’s a fun and exclusive Japanese snack subscription box filled with limited-edition KitKats, specialty-flavoured Japanese chips, seasonal treats, and occasional sodas that are only available in Japan for a limited time. This month there are 13 different sweet and savoury items, including a full size bag of KitKats and instant yakisoba, plus a colour booklet. 4 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians.

Emma’s Favourites

  • Salted Caramel Kit Kat Gold – These are absolutely delicious. Really strong salted caramel flavour but with a rich chocolate taste too. The perfect balance.
  • Karinto Fried Bites – I’m not normally a huge fan of Karinto as I don’t like the fried sweetness, but these are flavoured with Otafuku okonomiyaki sauce giving it a savoury hit. They also come with aonori (seaweed) and pickled ginger baked in them just like with okonomiyaki and takoyaki too.
  • Sherbet Pero Candy Stick – This gives me such nostalgic vibes. Classic cola flavour with an intense sherbet.
  • Mini Sugar Doughnuts – These remind me of the mini doughnuts you get at the fair and while sadly not sold hot and fresh, I enjoyed the flavour a lot.
  • Yummy Yakisoba – Yakisoba is one of my favourite street foods, and while this one isn’t going to live up to the freshly prepared version, you can make additions like cabbage, onions and pork to elevate it.

Sakuraco – Heritage of Hiroshima

Experience the city of Hiroshima and surrounding Setouchi region, where nature, culture, and history come together. Each monthly Sakuraco box contains 20 traditional, authentic, and artisan Japanese snacks from local snack makers across Japan, including Japanese teas, a special Japanese tableware item and a full colour booklet. For this month’s box, there’s a traditional Kudzu Yu drink and beautiful hand-picked ceramic plate. 4 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians.

Marceline’s Favourites

  • Setouchi Hassaku Jelly – I love Japanese citrus fruits and these little jellies are soft, juicy and fruity with a hint of sourness.
  • Strawberry Baumkuchen – Made with real strawberries, this light layered cake has a beautiful flavour that isn’t too sweet.
  • Muscat Grape Gummies – I’ve never been lucky enough to try the prized Muscat grapes from this region but these gummies are very fruity with a soft texture and liquid centre.
  • White Peach Castella – Incredibly moist cake that’s far too easy to inhale. It’s made with peach puree, which gives it a subtly sweet and perfumed flavour.
  • Shio Dare Senbei – Sometimes simple flavours are the best and these salty crunchy snacks with a hint of garlic and black pepper are hard to stop eating.
