If clutter is taking over your desk or you want a cute way to display your collections, there’s no reason you have to settle for something boring. Here’s some kawaii storage solutions to buy or DIY that will help you stay organised in the cutest way possible.
If you collect tiny plush, like me, then these Sumikko Gurashi display shelves are a super cute way to show them off. And if you don’t, they’re also the right size for washi tape and other small items. There’s 2 colours available at San-X Japan (requires forwarding service), plus lots of other useful boxes and shelves.
If you’re more of a Sanrio fan, they have a similar range – these display shelves are made of clear acrylic and even have a door on the front to keep the dust out. Sanrio Japan has the biggest selection but some items are also available from Kawaii Panda (EU) and ARTBOX (UK).
For a DIY version, check out Chelsey DIY’s DIY Room Decor video which includes a retro TV-style display shelf.
These little refrigerators make perfect desktop stationery storage with space for pens, washi tape and more. They come blank so you can decorate them with your own stickers, in a fridge magnet style. Get them from an Etsy seller near you.
Creative Hours has a similar Pineapple Desk Organizer DIY, which is made from a shoebox so would be easy enough to scale down if you want something smaller.
If you have a lot of small items, Mochi Things (US) have a few desk organisers in colourful patterns and designs. These come flat packed so you can arrange all the pieces any way that suits you.
Origami is an obvious way to recreate this yourself and Paper Kawaii has a whole playlist of boxes and storage including a very similar desk tidy.
Or pick up some foam board and try this DIY desk organiser by Milky Sakura. It doesn’t look handmade at all, and there’s so many ways you could decorate it for extra cuteness.
A froggy earring hanger board by bunhugs (US) is definitely the cutest way to keep your jewellery organised.
Or decorate a simple cork board for jewellery, pins and more. A full tutorial for this cloud design is in our book, The Super Cute Book of Kawaii, but you can make up your own design with paint or markers.
File boxes are always handy for keeping magazines and documents together and the happy TJABBA design at IKEA (worldwide) is an incredible bargain at 50p for 2. How could you not smile every time you see them?
Those are also a great base for a DIY, or you could refresh some you already own. Back in 2018, I covered the drawers of a cardboard IKEA shelf with wrapping paper and that’s still looking great. You could also use paint or Posca pens, or create a decoupage style collage.
