DIY Pumpkin Decorations For Halloween & Thanksgiving

The leaves are changing colours, the air is getting cooler and pumpkins are back in the shops, markets and grocers again, which can mean only one thing. It’s definitely autumn! While pumpkins  are extremely delicious in soups and pies and used as jack o’ lanterns for Halloween, there’s so much more that we can do to celebrate pumpkin season, like these cute pumpkin decorations that work for both Halloween and Thanksgiving.

My Poppet shows us how to make the cutest origami pumpkin garland that gives that seasonal feel, whilst being very minimalistic. I love the use of different orange and brown tones to evoke all the autumn colours. You could make them even more kawaii by adding a little face onto a few of them!

How about these cute pom-pom pumpkins from Art Beat Box? You could use them as place settings for a Thanksgiving dinner or for a garland, just like the origami ones.

You could repurpose a pumpkin into a fully compostable (albeit temporary) succulent planter, just like these from The Hip Homestead. They look gorgeous with those succulents inside. Save those scooped out seeds for eating, feeding the birds, or even replanting in your own garden.

(Just remember – don’t put the painted parts of pumpkins in the compost unless the paint specifically says it can be).

Lovely Indeed suggests either writing little spooky messages on the sides of tiny pumpkins for Halloween or decorating little cream pumpkins with gold botanical designs for a seasonal touch.
