Even if you’re not handy with a sewing machine or needle, it can be hard to resist all the cute fabric designs out there. The good news is that there are loads of no-sew fabric DIYs that everyone can try, and you can customise them with your favourite kawaii fabric patterns. If you do have a sewing machine, many of these are great beginner projects for that too.
If you’re new to buying fabric, Spoonflower (ships from both US & EU) is a great site to start with as they sell kawaii designs by thousands of indie artists and illustrators, which are available printed on lots of different fabric bases, from simple cotton to fleece, silk and velvet. They also have a whole No-Sew Tutorials section on their blog that includes the recommended type of fabric. Try these Easy No-Sew Notebook Covers as a beginner project.
Throw pillows / cushions are another easy project that lets you display a super cute fabric pattern and change up your room quickly – all you’re really doing is folding over the edges and gluing together. Homey Oh My has a clear photo tutorial to follow.
Or pick up your favourite matching colours of fleece and make some doughnut, macaron & cupcake pillows with this cute tutorial by Belinda Selene.
Cute up a plain t-shirt with a little fabric pocket! This No Sew Pocket T Shirt tutorial at Cut Out + Keep is super quick and only needs a small piece of fabric.
You could also make a matching hair accessory using the No-Sew Wire Headband DIY by Sarah Hearts. I bet making these is really addictive once you get started.
For a more challenging project, try this Fabric Folder & Organizer DIY by makoccino. There’s quite a lot of steps but you’ll end up with a really useful item with space for a notepad, pens etc.
Checking Youtube brought up this classic Pusheen Mermaid Tail Blanket from Maqaroon and had to share again. It’s so adorable and really not that difficult.
If you’d love a fluffy rug but can’t find the perfect design, make one yourself! This No Sew Rabbit Rug DIY at Sewing Rabbit includes a template but it wouldn’t be too hard to swap in a different animal or object.
