New Kawaii Books To Buy & Preorder

Posted on July 14, 2021 by

Here’s a round up of some new kawaii books that are out now or available to pre-order for later in the year. I’ve included Amazon links below but you can get the ISBN there and order through other sites, like Bookshop (UK / USA)  which supports independent bookshops near you.

Out Now!

kawaii drawing book

Angela Nguyen has just published a fifth book in her kawaii drawing series and Kawaii: How to Draw More Cute Stuff from Around the World (UK / US) has step by step tutorials to help you draw famous international landmarks in her cute style. This would be great for anyone who keeps a travel journal.

aggretsuko comics

There are so many new Aggretsuko comics (UK / US) since I last checked and I need to pick up some of these for myself. You can buy collections with a few comics – a few are out now with more to pre-order. Individual comics are also available from comic shops like Forbidden Planet (UK) with a choice of cover art.

sumikko gurashi kawaii craft book

This Sumikko Gurashi perler beads craft book not only includes patterns for all the main characters but cute holiday designs and even 3D boxes. It also comes with 1500 beads, pegboards, and ironing paper so you can get started right away. You can find it on Amazon JP and CDJapan.

kawaii plush sewing book

If you’d like to start making plushies, Sewing Simple Softies (UK / US) is a great book aimed at total beginners. It includes patterns from 17 different designers so you can try out different styles and techniques.

bunny books

My favourite bunny artist Schinako has 2 picture books (JP) out now, titled Hop, Little Bunny and Sleep, Sleepy Bunny. They’re in Japanese but you can enjoy the illustrations – and the text should be simple enough if you’re learning Japanese. I also love the Rabbit Dictionary that she illustrated but it’s not currently shipping outside Japan.

Available For Pre-Order

Animal Crossing manga

The success of Animal Crossing New Horizons means we are getting an English translation of a recent series of Japanese manga books. Volume 1 of Deserted Island Diary (UK / US) features fan favourite characters like Tom Nook, Blathers, Gulliver, Wisp, Dom and Raymond and will apparently include gag-filled adventures and game tips. I bet there were a LOT of puns to try and translate! Published in September.

gudetama recipe book

Gudetama fans who enjoy cooking will be excited to hear about Gudetama: The Official Cookbook (UK / US)! Subtitled ‘Recipes for Living a Lazy Life’, this looks like it will be cute and useful with a range of Japanese/American dishes to try. It’s also fully illustrated so will be fun to look through even if you’re too lazy to make anything. Published in October.

kawaii recipe book

Celebrate with Kim-Joy (UK / US) is the Bake Off star’s third book and features 60 sweet recipes to help you celebrate holidays and special events. Everything is still very cute and whimsical with lots of kawaii faces. You need to click through and look at the pictures as the Christmas chocolate bombes are especially adorable!

Hope there’s something you’ll want to add to your shelves! You can find loads more kawaii books in our archives including Craft Books, Colouring Books, Cookbooks and general Books, Comics & Zines.
