I love character cafes so was really excited to hear about the pop up Hello Kitty cafe at Tombo Fitzrovia in Central London.
I’ve now been twice and would definitely recommend a visit. It’s been so popular they’ve extended it until October 22nd so you still have time.
They specialise in sushi bowls and matcha tea and have a special Hello Kitty themed menu.
It’s a very small restaurant and both times I had to wait about 10 minutes for a table but there’s lots to see while you wait. There are exclusive Hello Kitty items for sale including postcards, tote bags and a special blend of matcha tea.
I was planning on having the curry but when I saw that the pokē bowl came with an adorable little Hello Kitty soy sauce bottle I had to have it!
When it came it just looked so kawaii (see photo at top) and I loved the little touches like the vegetables cut into Hello Kitty faces and her pasta bow! As well as looking great it tasted amazing so I was very pleased with my choice.
I had the strawberry and cream dorayaki (Japanese pancake) for dessert which is really yummy and a good choice if you’re not a fan of matcha.
I returned for a second visit to try the curry and found it pretty similar to the pokē bowl but with curry sauce. It’s advertised with chicken on the menu but you can have tofu instead if you’re a veggie like me! I enjoyed the curry but feel the pokē bowl worked better with all the flavours.
I also had the matcha frappé milkshake and matcha berry sundae. Both looked very pretty and tasted delicious with a strong matcha flavour to the ice cream.
It was a fantastic experience dining at the Hello Kitty cafe and I’ll be sad to see it go but I will definitely be visiting Tombo again. If you can’t make it in person, the exclusive range of matcha, tote bags and postcards is also available online.
