Introduce yourself!
Hello! My name’s Emma and I teach English as a foreign language which I absolutely love. My main interests are Star Wars, Stray Kids, travelling around Japan (including the theme parks) and finding great places to eat, especially bakeries. Sadly, I don’t have any pets of my own (except my Pokemon!) but my mum is a proud parent to two insane chickens that I babysit on occasion! I have two podcasts that I’m a part of. One is called Fancy A Cuppa? about English language and British culture and the other is a nerdy podcast that I co-host with two equally nerdy friends called Loth-Chats after the hugely adorable Loth-cats in Star Wars.
Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t guess from your SCK posts
I love crime dramas, police procedurals and detective stories. I actually collect Agatha Christie books from the 70s!
How did you become interested in kawaii culture? How did you find SCK?
I was introduced to SCK through their open writer position on Cakes with Faces. I thought the website looked fun, full of things I enjoy, and seemingly like-minded people. I didn’t hesitate to apply, and here I am! Regarding kawaii culture, I’ve always been into cute designs for food, especially when they’re themed to IP that I love, and I’ve also been a Disney fan from a very young age and still find an immense amount of joy from visiting the theme parks. Pokemon came into my life around 30 years ago, but I rediscovered it properly again in my adulthood and really found a love for it. I honestly think my 11 year old self would be very happy with all of my adult-money purchases!!
What cute products or characters can you never resist adding to your kawaii collection?
I’m a sucker for gachapon and I love rolling for charms of my favourite characters, mini food, and collecting SKZOO (Stray Kids mascots). Pokemon always draws me in with a themed collaboration and I’m currently doing a Pokemon stamp rally around Tokyo for the rewards! I’m a huge fan of Baymax from Big Hero Six, so I often pick up merch of his, especially from Tokyo Disneyland. Recently, Hot Toys created Ewok bag charms (from Star Wars) and picking up one of those at Star Wars Celebration in Japan was a must do and to be honest, my bag charm collection is definitely healthy… (no labubu though).
What are your favourite crafts or creative hobbies? What’s the cutest thing you’ve made?
I really enjoy baking and I’m always trying out new recipes and flavours. I often try to make Star Wars themed desserts for my friends in the community, and I think the Ewok biscuits might be the cutest things I’ve ever made. I occasionally cosplay and my Darth Maul cosplay is one of my best crafty accomplishments, including a hand painted top to resemble his body markings and air dry clay sculpted horns. Not necessarily cute, but I’m very proud of it!
Which of your posts are you most proud of?
I think probably all of my Japan content would be up there as they take me a long time to create, but I absolutely love sharing tips and tricks with everyone. If I can help at least one person with their travels then I’m very happy.

But I’ll have to save space number 5 for a recipe post, as I love making these, especially the seasonal ones like Halloween, Christmas and Valentines. However, I think maybe the Star Wars desserts would also be a top pick.
Who are your favourite creators to follow?
- If you like Stray Kids and cute dogs, then I highly recommend Riskit Design. Kristi makes fabulous SKZOO themed products but also stickers and stationery themed around her dog too.
- If you’re a Disney fan and love visiting theme parks in Asia, whether in real life or through the screen, then I highly recommend TDR Explorer.
- If you enjoy watching people open blind boxes, gacha or mystery packs then I have to recommend Lorien’s Toy Box on YouTube. Abbey is so positive and happy and I find her videos super calming to watch, plus I can live vicariously through her and not open too many blind boxes myself!
- If you enjoy Japan travel content, but ideally prefer it to come from a local and there maybe be a lot of Pokemon involved, then I have to recommend Mainichilatte who posts super useful travel videos, but also shares my love for the Disney parks and Pokemon manhole covers.
- I follow a lot of fabulous creators in Japan on Instagram but also over on YouTube too, but far too many to name here, so do let me know if you’d like any recommendations.
