If you’re a fan of cats and idol bands, you’re sure to love the Beatcats, possibly the first all-cat idol group!

It’s a collaboration between Sanrio and SEGA and the cats are called Rico, Chelsea, Mia, Emma & Layla – each with their own colour, style and personality so you can find your favourite. I feel drawn to purple Layla with her headphones.
They make music too, of course, and their third single MEOW is out today for Cat Day (Neko no Hi). Here’s the preview video.

While the Beatcats have been around since late last year, the first cute merch is released today too at Sanrio Japan (requires forwarding service). Even if you don’t like the music, everything is very cute with plushies, beauty accessories, and some stationery that looks likes makeup! There’s even a fashion line with spinns.

If you like the Beatcats, make sure to follow them on Youtube and Instagram for updates. Hopefully some of the products will show up outside Japan too.
