I’m a big fan of handcrafted flowers for my home as they give me the same kind of joy as a fresh bouquet but last so much longer. Plus you get the fun of making them! If you love summer flowers, I’ve found some seasonal craft kits, patterns and tutorials to try.

I’m very intrigued by the pipecleaner bouquet kits at Craft Club (AU) which have everything you need to make some very colourful flowers that you can also arrange in a vase or turn into a garland or wreath. There’s flowers for all seasons but the sunflowers and stargazer lilies look especially good for summer. They’re all suitable for beginners and you don’t need any special tools or skills.

If sunflowers are your favourite, The Handmade Florist has a whole Sunshine Collection of felt flower kits & digital patterns including bouquets, wreaths and garlands. I’ve made a few of their kits before, including the Dahlias in Bloom Bouquet Kit I wrote about on SCK, and they’re really satisfying to make and still look beautiful years later. You do need some cutting skills and a glue gun but there’s no sewing required. I’m actually working on a wreath kit just now so look out for a post about that soon.

Mini Mi also has a lot of lovely felt flower patterns, including animal flower crowns! These are so cute and you can choose from a few different designs with unicorn, fox, cat and bunny ears. As well as the templates and instructions, your download includes a video tutorial, and even SVG files for Cricut users.
If you’d prefer a more classic look, the Hello Kitty & Friends channel shows you how to make a My Sweet Piano flower crown with artificial flowers. You can use this as a jumping off point and create your own design with any kind of artificial or crafted flowers, and add some cute touches with ribbons, charms or beads.

I’m loving tropical designs and colours this summer and Needless Designs’ Tropical Flora embroidery pattern is so colourful and tactile. I think it would look really dramatic on a dark fabric too. It’s beginner friendly and you’ll learn a few different stitches for future projects.

If you prefer cross stitch, The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery has a colourful new Foxglove Fancy cross stitch pattern with a teacup full of flowers and a bluebird. It’s available as both a digital download and printed pattern (US).

Hand-carved rubber stamps have such a unique look and if you don’t have the skills to make one, talktothesun (AU) has loads of flower-themed sets to choose from including anemone, rose, camellia and plumeria. Most have 2 or 3 stamps so you can add contrasting details or leaves and create patterns or designs on cards or fabric. They also sell ink pads and other supplies to get you started.
Chisshy Origami shows you how to make a variety of Origami Tropical Flowers & Leaves including Hibiscus, Banana Leaf, Anthurium Flower and Leaf, and Monstera Leaf. There’s some really fun techniques here, plus ideas of how to arrange them into a decoration.
Heading to a festival or summer event? Add some extra cute to your outfit with this roundup of DIY Flower Nails For Beginners from cutepolish. There’s 15 designs to try, and you can always bring them to a nail salon as inspo if you don’t have the skills or supplies.
