Trinket dishes are one of my favourite decor items as they look cute on display and are also useful for keeping your jewellery, hair accessories or other little treasures from getting lost. I’ve searched up the cutest options to buy or craft, all created by kawaii artists, designers and makers.

KnetCat (EU) is a new discovery and only makes trinket dishes, which are all handmade from air-dry clay and hand-painted. I couldn’t possibly pick just one as they’re all so cute and funny. I especially love the bumblebee and all the fruits but there’s lots more food and animals too.

By Mioki (EU) also has an impossible choice of kawaii trinket dishes – including lots of cats! – that are full of fun little details to match your style. There’s all sorts of shapes and sizes including little pots with lids for extra protection. Every piece is unique and they’re all handmade from polymer clay and hand-painted.

We’ve featured NoondayDream’s (UK) little polymer clay charms before but they also have a delightful range of handmade trinket dishes. This cloud is so sweet but there’s also lots of strawberry designs, a fried egg, bumblebee and birthday cake.

For a more affordable option, I Like Cats (UK) has trinket dishes printed with their original artwork. There’s lots of cute designs, all with cats of course, and this floral design is perfect for summer. Since they’re plastic you could also use them for snacks (or is it just me who puts a single biscuit on a tiny plate?)

For extra special treasures, keep them safe inside a Mystery Trinkets tin can from thousandskies (US). This would still look adorable on display but can also be stashed in your bag. There’s already a vinyl sticker sheet inside and you can even buy one filled with mystery trinkets.
If you’d like to try making your own trinket dishes, air dry clay is a great option that doesn’t need baking. There are tons of free tutorials out there but this video from gazoo studio is full of inspiration and shows you the whole process, from shaping and sanding to painting and sealing. There’s also links to all the supplies you’ll need.
Crocheters have some fun patterns to choose from and I love this mini pond jewelry dish tutorial from ETM’s Studio. It’s suitable for beginners and has removable/optional lily pads, frog and duck so you can arrange things however you like.

Irene Strange has an affordable crochet pattern for Trinket The Dragon Treasure Keeper who can look after larger items so would be great on a desk. I also love the idea of using it for game dice, especially cool for fantasy-themed games and D&D nights. It doesn’t sound like this is aimed at beginners but there’s a list of the skills and stitches you’ll need to know.
Hello Origami has loads of cute tutorials for boxes and organisers that only use a sheet or two of paper. This origami box tutorial includes three designs for My Melody, Cinnamoroll & Bear that you can even customise further for other characters.
If your trinkets are bigger and deserve to be on display, the Hello Kitty and Friends channel has a DIY Heart Trinket Shelf featuring My Melody & Kuromi. While you’ll need a few supplies from your local craft store, this is all fairly easy and can be customised for other characters and themes.
Do you have any trinket dishes?
