I grew up with my parents’ Peanuts comic books and would never have considered Snoopy to be a kawaii character, since he was created in the 50s by an American cartoonist. But much like Disney and Miffy, once you get adopted by Japanese fans and brands, everything gets cuter! Whether you’re an OG fan or a new one, here’s some of the most kawaii shopping picks and crafts I could find. They mostly focus on Snoopy but check the shops for other Peanuts characters.
I have to start with this recent Peanuts Sherbet Spring collab at Whatever! Makes You Happy (US) as all the bags are so fun and inventive. The Snoopy-shaped corduroy bags are the standouts (there’s another one covered in pins and patches) and you can choose from 4 types of mini bag charms in blind boxes. There’s also wallets, tees, sweaters and stickers.
House of Disaster (UK) have a huge Peanuts collab with some very cute accessories. There’s lots of different designs, used across tote bags & shoppers, wallets, zip purses and card cases. Everything looks really great quality with useful features and different patterns on the back. That’s not all either, as the collab also includes keychains, lamps, cups, trinket dishes and jewellery.
Pipsticks (US) had a big Peanuts stationery box that sold out but there’s still individual stationery items in their shop. The scratch n’ sniff stickers and letter sets feel very nostalgic and there’s also a notebook, notepad and washi tape – plus Halloween & Christmas stationery.
One piece of proof for Snoopy’s popularity in Japan is that there’s a whole Peanuts/Snoopy section of Re-Ment miniature sets. They’re often some of the most unique designs as well that are perfect for displaying on a desk or shelf. The miniature boards are very fun and I love the different frame art shapes, but there’s also terrariums, a street of homes and wreaths. On to crafts and The Crafty Kit Company (UK) have a range of Peanuts craft kits for embroidery, cross stitch and needle felting, plus wooden needle minders. The embroidery kits look especially beginner-friendly with printed designs on fabric to embellish.
The Woobles (US) have Peanuts crochet kits for both Snoopy and Woodstock, plus accessory sets to dress them up! Snoopy’s outfits include the flying ace, beagle scout and Santa for the holidays. You can buy them individually, as character & outfit sets or as a full bargain bundle.
For a free crochet pattern, chubbiesbyash has a video tutorial for 2 styles of Snoopy amigurumi keychain – either standing up or sitting down with a heart. There’s some very sweet customisation ideas too with the little bows.
Oktocrafts’ Snoopy plushie tutorial is an extremely cute way to make a DIY huggable friend. Sock plush were all the rage a few years ago and they’re still a very easy and affordable option if you’re not a confident crafter or don’t already have a lot of supplies and tools.
I always have to include origami and origami.omotyabako has a fun take on Snoopy that’s more than just folding paper. The hand-drawn cartoon style gives it a very unique and expressive look.
