Expo 2025 is taking place in Osaka, Japan this year and of course there’s an official mascot, Myaku-Myaku. Here’s where to buy cute merch and collabs, plus some fun crafts to try.

Myaku-Myaku is a mysterious creature born from the fusion of cells and water and is friendly but goofy, often making silly mistakes. Some people find it scary or weird but it’s also very happy and kawaii. If you’re in Japan this year, the Osaka Expo is a huge event running until October and well worth a visit. If not, we can still buy or make Myaku-Myaku from home.

Hello Kitty is always making new friends so it’s no surprise to see a Sanrio x Myaku-Myaku collab! The biggest selection is at the official Expo online shop (JP – requires forwarding service) which includes plush, keychains, stationery, stickers, t-shirts and even lip balm and sheet masks. Meccha Japan, Plaza Japan and Kawaii Republic (all JP) also have various items in stock and ship worldwide, though the plush are selling out fast.

There are more collabs in the official shop too, including other mascots and Japanese brands, I was really happy to see CRAFTHOLIC – a Japanese plush brand we used to feature a lot back in the early days of SCK. Myaku-Myaku is reimagined in the CRAFTHOLIC style for plush and accessories.

Back at Meccha Japan (JP) you’ll also find another collab with Tamagotchi! There are 2 designs themed around the Expo and while you won’t see Myaku-Myaku appearing on screen, they still look really cool.

A few other shops are doing pickups or preorders for merch including Rainbowholic Shop (JP). They’ve got sticker books in stock now and you can preorder a cute plush pouch.
On to DIYs and おもちゃ箱 omotyabako has the perfect origami Myaku-Myaku that looks so happy and friendly. It’s quite a large size to include all the details but still only uses standard origami paper sheets. While the thumbnail is in Japanese, there’s no text to follow – all the steps are shown clearly and slowly.
ORIGAMI ROOM also has a few different Myaku-Myaku origami DIYs that are easy to follow and I especially love this traditional crane with a twist! There’s similar takes on carp streamers and a samurai helmet, as well as the mascot itself.
Learn how to draw Myaku-Myaku with Szlin How to Cute Drawing. It may look complicated but this video breaks it down into simple steps.
I saw some amazing crochet toys on social media but none with patterns available. Instead, make something a little simpler with this crochet bag charm from とものすけ handmade channel. This is all in Japanese but is essentially just making some shapes and joining them up so if you’re experienced, you could make your own version. You can also run the transcript through Google Translate.
And finally, Laura’s Handmade has a tutorial for an edible candy Myaku-Myaku, plus 2 cat variations! This uses a white bean paste dough but you could use fondant icing instead, or even polymer clay. Make sure to turn on the English subtitles if you need them. This channel is very new and everything is adorable so give it a follow.
Emma visited the Expo while she was in Osaka so look out for some pics and videos from that over on Instagram – we’re @sckawaii and @thelittleedition.
