Pick up a cute new book to read with crafts, recipes and creative ideas to buy now or add to your wish list. Some are are out now and others are available to pre-order. I’ve included Amazon links below but you can also order through other sites, like Bookshop (UK/US) which supports independent bookshops near you.

There are loads of cute new crochet books coming out this year and it was tough to pick just a few, so have a browse if you’re a keen crocheter. A new book from Mei Li Lee – aka amiguruMEI, author of the official Hello Kitty Crochet book – is always a delight and Pocket Crochet: 18 Cute Crochet Characters to Make (UK) is filled with palm-sized friends that are quick makes you can finish in a day. Their faces are so sweet, especially that little bumblebee! Out March – no US release date yet

Or how about Crochet Cute Amigurumi Animals with Mix-and-Match Outfits (UK/US), the latest craft book from Tuttle with 76 patterns by 4 Japanese designers. This looks perfect for crocheters who love things like Animal Crossing and Sylvanian Families and you could probably use the outfit patterns for other dolls and plush too. Out now

Reversible Amigurumi: Crochet magical fairies and tales (UK/US) looks like a really clever book, just from the cover. It’s by Febby Pranajaya (Chibiscraft) and all 12 crochet patterns are reversible with fairytale-inspired characters like Cinderella, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog, plus more general designs like flower fairies and a baby dragon. I included a series of knitting books by Sachiyo Ishii in my last roundup and she already has another one! Knit Mini Toys: 20 tiny playtime projects (UK/US) is themed around toybox favourites, including cuddly animals, planes and submarines, a set of dinosaurs and some storybook characters. Out May

You don’t see a lot of cute needle felting books and Kawaii Needle Felting (UK/US) is even more unique as it has tutorials for 20 good luck charms from around the world. Many will be familiar including lucky cats, daruma, clover, pandas and ladybirds, but you’re sure to learn something new and these would all make great gifts. Out March

If you want to up your cupcake decorating game, Rachel Lindsay of Caked by Rach has a fun new book of Cupcakes for Any Occasion (UK/US). It has 50 decorating projects for all kinds of holidays and celebrations, plus 20 cake and frosting recipes to mix and match. While some are quite complicated, there are plenty that seem simple enough for anyone to try and still look super-impressive. Out March/April

If you love drawing, cute animals and RPG games & anime, Naomi Lord has made the perfect book for you, Cute Fantasy Art Class: Mystical Anime Besties (UK/US). It has step by step drawing tutorials for 51 fantasy characters you might encounter on an adventure with 4 areas (The Enchanted City, The Ancient Forest, The Moonlit Mountains and The Wild Hamlet), plus customisation ideas and companions/familiars. Or maybe you’d prefer to learn How to Draw Squishy Cats and Kittens (UK/US) from Vera Kay aka veekachoo, full of totally floofy felines and their worlds. This looks so cute and really great for beginners with step-by-step drawing projects, colouring pages and lots of tips for both traditional and digital art. Out March

For a stress-free creative activity, Lulu Mayo has a whole series of cute colouring books, each with a Million Creatures to Colour (UK/US). There’s been everything from sloths to mermaids and the latest is A Million Kittens. Each book has 30 spreads packed full of drawings to colour so will keep you going for a while. Out now

These are not brand new but I wasn’t aware that there’s a whole series of Molang comic books! There’s 5 so far and they all look very cute. The first books have adventures set in each of the 4 seasons and the most recent book (above) has Molang & Piu Piu helping animals in the savannah. The books are published in French but the stories are told entirely in pictures so anyone of any age can enjoy them. Get them from the official Molang Shop (EU) or Amazon (UK/US).
