Free Flower DIYs For Mother’s Day & Spring

It’s definitely starting to look like spring, with the first flowers and blossoms beginning to bloom. If you’re keen to hurry it along, here’s some free DIYs on YouTube to make your own flowers to brighten up the house or send to friends. They’d also be lovely as Mother’s Day gifts or cards (this Sunday if you’re in the UK & Ireland!)

These origami smiling flowers by kamikey origami are sure to cheer up anyone with their happy faces and bright colours, and look easy enough that you can make a whole garden. There’s lots more flowers on their channel too.

Hello Origami has a clever Origami Paper Flower Box that could be used as a small gift box as well as a decoration. Since the box part is made with one sheet of paper, you could try using patterned paper for extra fun – most wrapping paper works well for origami.

If you’re confident with paper crafts, SimplePaperMade has a tutorial for Standing Bouquets filled with mini tulips! I think these are so sweet and can be customised in lots of ways.

If you’re a crocheter, Lily’s Lyric has plenty of choice for flowers with crochet patterns for all abilities. This Sakura Hanging Accessory is so pretty and it would make a lovely garland too with the alternating colours.

Flowers are a classic theme for embroidery and there’s no lack of patterns out there. If you’re just getting started, Sarah Homfray Embroidery shows you how to make 5 flowers using just 2 stitches. The video is really clear too so you should have no problem following along.

The Hello Kitty and Friends channel has a super cute and easy DIY flower bouquet using card and pipe cleaners for the flowers and a paper cup for the pot. It includes a free printable for the Mother’s Day design but you could use a paper cup that already has a pattern printed on it, or put them in a vase or glass instead.

And for something very different, try one of the soap carving tutorials at mizutama.soap! These Kanzashi flowers and petals may look intimidating but the tutorial is easy level and you can use any bar of soap for your choice of scent and colour.
