Judging by my recent Cute Cats Stationery Picks, everyone still loves cats! If you’d rather make something yourself, here’s some of the most kawaii kitty tutorials, patterns and kits with crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, origami and more.
There’s a few interactive designs in this post, starting with the Purring Cats from lalylala. These chubby kitties are already super cute but inside there’s a vibrating wind up mechanism that will make your cat chase when you pull on the yarn ball! There’s a full crochet kit (EU) with everything you need, or a PDF pattern if you source the supplies yourself (or skip the vibrating part). Both are suitable for beginners with 4 cat breeds and 5 languages available.
curiouspapaya has a crochet pattern for Cleo the Giant Cat, which looks extremely huggable! It’s suitable for intermediate/beginner+ crocheters and uses super bulky yarn. You can change up the colours to match your own kitty and there’s also free modifications to turn it into Hello Kitty, Chococat and more.
For a free tutorial ETM’s Studio shows you how to make Mini Crochet Cats in one and two-colour designs with differnt expressions. It’s beginner-friendly too so have a go and use it for a keychain or bag charm.
Knitters often get left out, and black cats do too, so this Knit Kitten knitting pattern from Amy Gaines is the perfect combo. I love the playful pose and collar with bell. If you’re a slower knitter, there’s also a very cute pattern for Christmas cat ornaments that you could get started on ready for the holidays.
I still really want to try stick and stitch embroidery and Lazy May Sewing Club (UK) has a cute cat-themed set with nine hand drawn designs. You just iron them on to your chosen fabric (including clothing or bags), stitch on top and wash away the design after.
If your cat keeps you company while reading or sewing, NeedleMinderLair has a Bookworm Cat cross stitch pattern with a fun pastel galaxy style. More into video games? There’s a Gamer Cat pattern too! They’re both digital downloads and not too complicated for even total beginners to try.
little dear’s felt sewing patterns are always so sweet and these playful Kitty Cats would make the cutest brooches (especially if you attached the ball of yarn to swing below!). I love the soft colours used here but it’s a digital download so you can use whatever you like.
