I noticed that lots of kawaii characters are celebrating big anniversaries in 2020 so here’s a round up.
Following Hello Kitty’s 45th anniversary last year, 2 more Sanrio characters hit 45. My Melody celebrated her birthday in January with some cute new products available from Sanrio Japan (forwarding service required). If you’ll be in Japan this spring, there’s also a special pop-up shop with exclusive products visiting Tokyo, Osaka & Nagoya. I love the plush with birthday cake hat and the pompom bags!
Little Twin Stars were born on Christmas Eve so we should see more celebrations later this year. In the meantime, you can pick up something from the adorable Sanrio x Miki Takei stationery collection available from Rakuten (Japan) and ARTBOX (UK) .
Celebrating 50 years is robot cat Doraemon. We haven’t featured him much on SCK but the manga and anime are very popular in Japan. You can find merchandise on YesStyle (Hong Kong) and Plaza Japan (Japan) including a collaboration with Hello Kitty. Or make your own Doraemon with Paper Kawaii’s origami tutorial.
Can you believe Miffy will celebrate her 65th anniversary in June? She has lots of fun planned for the year, starting with a new collection at Truffle Shuffle (UK) including clothing, bags and mugs.
We’ll keep you posted on any fun new anniversary collaborations and celebrations throughout the year.
