Let’s have a look at what’s happening at Japanese kawaii brand San-X for February. There’s a debut for Cheer Cheer Lambs and new themes for Sumikko Gurashi, Korilakkuma & Sentimental Circus, plus a new shop for US fans. We have a brand new set of characters, and they’re not cats! ちあちあラムズ or Cheer Cheer Lambs introduces Ramu and Ryufu, childhood friends and cheerleaders with matching bows who use their fluffy wool as pom poms. They’re super-positive and motivational so great for these trying times.
There are plush of course, in 2 sizes, as well as lots of stationery. I’m mainly drawn to the accessories though which all have cute heart details. I especially like the multi-purpose case, photo card keychains, heart-shaped coin purse and tote bag with ribbon bows.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, what better than a Chocolate Fair at Cafe Sumikko Gurashi? I love a cafe theme and this brings back some of my favourite side characters including the baguette manager and hard-working ghost, plus some new sugarcube patissieres.
There are so many adorable plushies including fluffy Sumikkos, a canelé mountain, drink keychains and lots of minor characters. Stationery lovers have plenty to choose from too, including stickers, memo pads, letter sets, erasers and some hard cover file folders. There’s also accessories like a fidget keychain, chocolate bar hand towels and an amazing teapot and mug.
Korilakkuma is the star of this month’s Rilakkuma theme and they’re in a Little Devil Mood, causing mischief with some naughty rabbits. There’s some very funny plush of Korilakkuma pulling faces and Kogumachan will also be joining the fun with more plush of both to be released later this month. I love all the special features in this collection – there’s cut-out covers on the memo pads, ruffles on the bags and pouches, and lenticular ‘magic’ stickers.
And finally, Sentimental Circus get a very pretty new theme, Spica and the Child of the Constellation, with a sparkly star-filled watercolour design with babies that look like main character Shappo. Products include sleepy plush, a circus tent case, holographic stickers and embroidered brooches.
While US fans don’t have many options for buying these collections domestically, there’s now an official San-X store on Amazon! It mainly sells San-X products made for the US market but there’s lots of cute designs and US-exclusives so it’s a good option for guaranteed licensed products and prices should be lower without import/reseller fees. How to buy San-X
All the products for February are in the San-X shop now but you’ll need to use a forwarding service outside Japan. Otherwise you need to keep an eye on resellers. AmiAmi (JP) does pre-orders before release, Meccha Japan (JP) does both pre-order and in stock items, while Kawaii Republic (JP) and Very Goods (JP) usually add most items within a few days or weeks.
