I wrote a post full of Celestial Sewing Patterns earlier this year but I keep collecting cute projects so here’s a roundup of other types of craft kits, patterns and DIYs with stars and moons. Most of these are free and suitable for total beginners.

Mobiles aren’t just for nurseries and this DIY stars and moon mobile from Scratch and Stitch has a more grown up style that would look great in any room. This isn’t really a full tutorial, but has lots of tips and ideas to create your own version from craft shop supplies or whatever you like to make. You could use string or wire instead of a branch, and some of the DIYs below for the hanging decorations.

The official Miffy Crochet Book is out next month and the publisher is doing a free crochet along for the stars and moon mobile. The first 2 patterns are available now with the third coming tomorrow. The colours are very Dick Bruna but you could swap in pastels, metallics or even glow in the dark yarn.

Or Club Crochet will show you how to crochet stars and moons in various sizes, and add kawaii faces. There’s a full free written tutorial and a video too.
Cloudfetti has been re-sharing some older polymer clay tutorials and they’re still adorable. This Moon Pendant looks simple enough for a beginner and would be cute for Halloween and beyond. You could also easily turn it into a brooch, bag charm or keyring instead.

Or Laura Danby (UK) has created a sparkly DIY Star & Moon acrylic pendant kit that’s perfect for getting started with jewellery making. Everything you need is packed inside a pretty tin including full instructions.

Suncatchers are so magical on sunny days, especially in the winter, and Intuitive (EU) has a DIY suncatcher kit with supplies to make up to 3 rainbow makers. You assemble the sun, moon and star charms with crystals and hoops in any combination you like, and there’s a suction cup for sticking one to your window.

I’ve always wanted to learn bookbinding and this French Link Stitch Celestial Journal Bookbinding Kit from ThePapercraftPanda (US) looks like a very satisfying project to make with something you can use at the end. It includes both a video tutorial and written instructions and all the supplies you need, plus you can choose from a beautiful selection of cover designs, coloured threads and lined or blank paper.
These Origami Paper Star boxes from Hello Origami are so cute and happy and will cheer up any surface. All you need is a sheet of paper, scissors and a pen for adding a face. The channel also has some cute star garlands – they’re themed for Christmas but I would hang one any time of year.
Chisshy Origami has the cutest tutorial for an Origami Sleeping Moon hanging decoration, complete with nightcap and a pocket for the sheep it’s been counting! There’s also Origami Shooting Stars, with optional animal friends.
