If you don’t have the space to display or store a full size Christmas tree, why not make a smaller one? These DIY Christmas trees can all be made in time for the holiday season and there’s a mix of craft kits, patterns and free tutorials to choose from.
There’s a lot of crochet patterns out there but I think Joy the Christmas Tree might be the cutest! It’s a really nice size for adding some decorations but Storyland Amis also has a smaller version (and loads more kawaii holiday designs).
I love the idea of a pom pom Christmas tree as it looks so fun and different and you can really make it your own with the yarn colours. Aww Sam has gone for a mix of modern bright colours but it would also be lovely in pastels, greens or white – or even some fancy glitter yarns.
Ola ameS DIY has a few simple ideas for DIY Christmas trees using yarn – including a tree-shaped pom pom and these wrapped trees. Again, you can choose your own colours and decorations – and even go a lot bigger with chunky yarn.
This felt Christmas Tree wall hanging by My Felt Room is designed as an advent calendar so you can add an ornament every day. You can buy the sewing patterns for the tree and ornaments individually or as a bundle so you could always use some of your own ornaments if you don’t have time for everything. It’s quite a large size but would fit on a door if you’re short on space.
For something smaller, I think this macrame wall hanging is so pretty and tactile. Poly Tusal Handmade (EU) sells both a PDF pattern and some finished versions – including one in pink!
This amazing LEGO Christmas tree (global) is surprisingly affordable and would be fun for a family activity. It’s even a 2-in-1 build so you can make a big tree this year and then take it apart and make 2 smaller trees next year.
Not got the energy for a big project? Cotton Clara (UK) has you covered with this printed Christmas tree hoop kit that you can decorate with embroidery and trimmings, like mini pom poms and sequins. Everything you need to make and hang it is included so it would make a great gift too.
Make a kawaii origami Christmas tree in minutes with one of the many easy tutorials at Hello Origami. I love all the different decoration ideas and you could probably size this one up with bigger sheets of paper and more tiers.
Wall trees are a great space saver if you still want a full size tree and DiY BiGBooM has a roundup of DIY ideas using tinsel. I like that you can use your own ornaments and it will all pack up small for storage.
And don’t forget the Rolife DIY Christmas Melody Tree kit that I reviewed earlier in the week. You can also find more Christmas Crafts, Recipes & Activities in the archives.
