Mermaids have always been a popular theme and it’s even cuter when you add cats to get purrmaids or merkittys. Here’s a mix of cute shopping picks and crafts to enjoy.
Let’s start with some stationery as we had a request recently. One of my favourites is Pango Productions (UK) who have a squishy glitter lockable notebook, plus a matching squishy pen!
Nekojima Studios (EU) has a whole collection of kawaii mermaid cats. These holographic vinyl stickers are so cute and sparkly but there’s also a smaller sticker set, bookmarks and keychains.
It’s not just cats that get to be mermaids, jennillustrations has made a whole gang of Mer-Cuties for a sticker sheet and matching labels for Stickii (US). We definitely need more bunny mermaids.
The animals at Anirollz (US) are usually dressing up as food but this Mermaid Kittiroll has found a beautiful mermaid outfit that’s even removable. There’s so many nice details here with the ‘pearl’ necklace, lace and shell.
On to DIYs, and this little felt mermaid from SokolFelt is so simple and perfect. The sewing pattern is easy enough for beginners and you can customise the colours to make a whole set of mermaid friends.
Sew Desu Ne? has a free Mer-kitty plush sewing pattern but it is designed to be used with machine embroidery. For a simpler option, you can buy pre-printed fabric that you just cut and sew together. It’s available print-on-demand through Choly’s Spoonflower store (US) which means there’s loads of colour options and you can choose your own fabric base including plush minky.
For a quick craft, make an origami mermaid – or two! – with this tutorial by Kamikey. You can have a lot of fun with the paper choices and embellishements, plus it’s part of a whole under the sea set.
Ayelet Keshet has a few free printables with cute mermaids including stationery and colouring pages. I have to highlight this paper craft Mermaid World from her Etsy shop though as you get so many different things to make and colour in too.
