While everyone else is excited about pumpkin spice, I can’t wait to tuck into all of the goodness that comes with apple season. It’s the perfect fruit at this time of year; juicy enough to make me think that summer still lingers, but when it’s warmed with cinnamon, I know autumn is on its way.
I know Bonfire Night isn’t until November, but toffee apples always remind me of my childhood outings for fireworks, munching this and shuffling through the autumn leaves. The ones at Olive look delicious dipped in nuts, but if you want to go all out, put them on top of a spiced layer cake and serve it as the showstopper of any autumn party you’re having.
If you’d rather have your toffee apples in a cupcake rather than on a stick, then try these caramel apple cupcakes from Taste of the Frontier. They use apple sauce AND shredded apple in the cakes, plus you can add a little piece of crisp apple on top of the caramel frosting for a hint at the original inspiration.
The flavour combination of apple and cinnamon is one of my favourites and Pies and Tacos even managed to put into a macaron. These apple macarons are filled with cooked spiced apple and a cinnamon frosting.
Apple cider in the US (non-alcoholic) is not the same as in the UK (alcoholic), so don’t worry, these mini apple cider cakes from Half Baked Harvest contain no alcohol! I enjoy the fact that they have a little cinnamon stick in the top of each one to make them look like apples and the drizzle of chocolate is a great addition.
I really love linzer cookies, because they’re so versatile. You can cut out any little shape and fill with a variety of flavoured jams, and these little beauties have tiny apples cut out of the top layer and are sandwiched with apple butter. Very cute treats to go with your hot beverage of choice.
If you don’t want to bake, and eat, an entire apple pie then these little puff pastry hand pies from Baker by Nature are just perfect. The fact that they’re shaped like apples is such a cute touch.
Piñata cookies are always so much fun and these apple shaped sugar cookies actually come with an apple juice icing so that they even taste like apples too. Plus they’re filled with chocolates, so who could say no to that?
