Let’s have a look at what’s coming up at Japanese kawaii brand San-X for September. There’s cute new themes for Korilakkuma & Sentimental Circus, a debut collection for Ishiyowa-chan and this year’s Halloween plush. Shopping links and info is at the end of the post and the collection pages also have free wallpapers.
It’s nice to to see a new dog character as San-X haven’t had one in a very long time. Ishiyowa-chan feels very relatable with a catchphrase of “Tomorrow for sure.” He’s always doomscrolling, eating snacks, going to bed early and putting off difficult tasks for ‘tomorrow me”, which…yeah, me too.
While there are obviously plushies, I really like that the main focus is on useful items, so you can be just like Ishiyowa-chan and take them to your boring job you’re terrible at. There’s lots of stationery, including file folders, notepads and stickers, plus pouches, a tote bag (with a pocket for your plush!), hand towels and mug. Nothing yet featuring his efficient organised cat co-worker but maybe next time if this collection is popular.
It’s Korilakkuma’s 20th anniversary this year so they get a new solo collection, Sky Curling Cotton Candy, imagining what it would be like if the clouds were cotton candy. It’s full of dreamy pastels and fluffy friends including a unicorn, alien and lion cat plush.
While Korilakkuma is definitely the star here, there are a few items featuring Rilakkuma, Kiiroitori and Kogumachan too including a big collection of adorable plushies in various sizes. You’ll also find some stationery and few different styles of bags, plus a selection of beauty products with makeup brush set, mirror and hair accessories.
Sentimental Circus always bring something a little different to San-X with darker and more elaborate designs, a bit like Kuromi with Sanrio. The latest collection is Twin Stars Cafe with a late-night parfait theme and a very distinctive oil-painted art style. I do love a cafe theme and there’s so much detail here. The vanity pouch looks like a luxury brand and there’s more bags and pouches, a trinket dish and lots of plush and stationery too.
Spooky season approaches and this year’s Halloween plush have been revealed! Sumikko Gurashi are stealing the show here with a demon theme including this incredible pumpkin carriage and Tokage on a broomstick.
Rilakkuma has gone for a Spooky Halloween theme with zombies, mummies, pumpkins and vampires. The colourful zombie set is so cute and even includes Korilakkuma’s duck toy. I’d recommend ordering now if you don’t want to miss out but we’ll remind you about these closer to Halloween when they should be available more widely.
How to buy San-X
The collections above can all be ordered from the San-X shop from Sunday (1st September at 10am JST) but you’ll need to use a forwarding service outside Japan. Otherwise you need to keep an eye on resellers. AmiAmi (JP) does pre-orders before release, Meccha Japan (JP) does both pre-order and in stock items, while Very Goods (JP) usually add most items within a few weeks. International shops can take longer, from weeks to many months – we recommend Cuteness (EU – also do preorders), ARTBOX (UK) and Oshoppu (UK). Use our guide to The Best Kawaii Shops Worldwide for more options (sadly most US shops mainly stock San-X products made for the US market) or search on Ebay and Amazon Japan.
