We all love cute plushies but what can make them even more kawaii is when they come with little outfits and accessories so you can dress them up. I’ve found some fun options with both shopping picks and crafts to choose from and many of these are also likely to fit other plush or dolls that you already own.
Sanrio’s Pitatto Friends are my top pick as everything is so adorable! You can choose a plush of most of the popular characters, which also have a base to stand them up. Then stock up on some cute outfits and accessories. The latest range is themed around cafe snacks but there’s lots more too including outing sets with bag, camera and drink. Sanrio (JP – requires forwarding service), Plaza Japan (JP) and ARTBOX (UK) have pretty much everything between them so shop around if something is out of stock at one.
Sadly San-X have stopped making new things for the SCK Bears Rilakkuma & Kogumachan but there are still regular releases for the little Sumikko Gurashi tenori plush. You can buy the entire gang as plain plushies and then choose from a massive array of outfits and playsets, with everything from a sleeping bag to a treehouse. San-X (JP – requires forwarding service) have the most items but you can find some at Cuteness (EU) and VeryGoods (JP).
I also can’t leave out Build-A-Bear Workshop (worldwide) who keep creating fun new outfits and accessories that fit most of their plush range. There’s lots of fun pop culture collabs too including Pokemon, Sanrio and Disney, though I’m personally very much enjoying the Lord of the Rings costumes!
If you prefer to support independent artists, Rinicake (US) has made this super cute Dollypaca plushie! It comes with a strawberry hood and cape plus you can also add an embroidered sweater & beret outfit.
On to DIYs and I’m struggling to pick just one of the cute crochet patterns from rinmeow21 to feature. There’s all kinds of animals from a bunny and panda to monkey and raccoon, all with little bags, so click through to see them all.
Noialand also has too many cute felt sewing patterns to choose from but I do really love this baby unicorn princess doll with removable hat and hobby horse.
Sew Desu Ne? has lots of digital patterns for sewing your own plush and many include clothes and costumes that work with multiple dolls. This Woodland Witches bundle has patterns for a deer, cat, fox and wolf plus a hooded cape, leaf backpack, and witch hat to dress them up in.
The sewing patterns at Jane Magic Craft are so whimsical and nostalgic that I feel like these mice have stepped out of a classic storybook. She also has lots of patterns for Blythe doll clothes.
