Mother’s Day is coming up soon in the UK and a handmade gift is always extra special. I’ve picked out a range of craft patterns and kits from UK Etsy sellers to help you make flowers that will last much longer than the real thing. If you’re not in the UK, many offer international shipping and/or digital downloads so you can make something to celebrate spring.
Hawthorn Handmade have a new range of felt brooch kits for a lovely wearable gift. It’s hard to choose a favourite from all the colourful flowers and cute animals. Check out their embroidery patterns and kits too.
Or how about a flower owl? Polly Chrome Crafts has designed one for all 12 birth flowers so you can make your mum’s or just a favourite flower. The flower owl kits include pre-cut felt shapes to save you time, or you can even skip the making and buy a readymade owl.
The Pretty Petal Studio has a big range of pre-cut felt flowers and leaves in all kinds of colours including springtime pastels. They’re great for all kinds of creative projects – glue them onto wire for a bouquet, turn them into brooches or hair accessories, or make a garland or wreath.
Try your hand at macrame with a pattern and video tutorial by sTEAdydecor. It will show you how to make this clever flower design that you can use for a keychain or bag charm.
Crocheters should head to ViTasja, who has an affordable range of digital flower patterns including little bouquets and potted flowers. There’s lots of different styles and options so there’s sure to be something that will inspire you.
Paper flowers can be fiddly to make but they do look quite realistic in their own special way. Bergin & Bath have a few pretty paper flower kits to choose from that include everything you need.
I’ve never liked paper quilling but Tilly Viktor is changing my mind with their colourful and modern designs. This flower quilling kit includes everything you need to make 3 beautiful bouquet designs, but there’s also a simpler beginner kit that’s ideal for cards.
Boho Craft Studio has a floral embroidery kit for everyone including cat and dog lovers. I also really love the designs stitched on transparent organza.
Floral cross stitch patterns can be very twee and old-fashioned but theworldinstitches has a colourful geometric style that’s much cooler. These look like a lot of fun to stitch and there’s a few different flower designs to choose from.
Something very different to finish on – glass fusing kits by Molten Wonky Glass. These come with a clear glass base and a mix of coloured glass fragments and pieces that you use to create your own design. You then send it back where it will be fired, finished and returned to you. This coaster kit would be a useful gift and there’s also things like suncatchers, soap dishes and decorations.
