We always love visiting the Hyper Japan festival in London and since they can’t have a proper one this year, they’ve organised a whole month of Hyper Japan Online starting tomorrow. Here’s some highlights.
The best thing about online events is that kawaii fans worldwide can also experience Hyper Japan without even leaving your home. You may need to work around the time difference if you want to attend a class or see a performance live, but I expect some things will be available to watch later too.
The J-Fashion show and Cosplay contest are always great fun and both will be be live online this year on the Hyper Japan Youtube channel. Watch as top Japanese fashion brands show off their new collections, and the UK’s top cosplayers battle it out.
There are also lots of live performances and classes to take and many are free. Enjoy everything from a J-Pop girl band and breakdance group to a samurai artist and Kyoto teahouse tour with Geisha & Maiko. For classes, you can try origami, Japanese cooking, manga art and lots more. Some of the ticketed events are already sold out so don’t wait too long.
While you can’t browse all the cute merch in the same way, there is an online market of kawaii shops, artists and makers so you can check out their shops and find some new favourites.
Visit the Hyper Japan Online site to view all the events, classes, giveaways and more.
