When you start collecting kawaii plush it’s usually from the big name brands and characters but more and more artists and makers are creating plush from their original designs. Here’s a few I’m sure you’ll want to add to your collection. I’ve chosen all mass-produced plush (rather than handmade/one of a kind) – they’re the same quality as the big brands but made in smaller quantities and with original characters you won’t find anywhere else.
Kickstarter is always a good place to find kawaii plush makers and projects to support. Faith Varvara has a new campaign to add 5 more plushies to her Bumbleberry Hollows gang and it’s already fully funded with 2 weeks to go. If you don’t want to wait, the first group of characters are available at Trendy Not (Canada).
Also on Kickstarter now are these adorable cow plushies by BerryCuteStudio (USA). It has smashed through the original goal so Bella the Strawberry Cow will also be getting 2 new friends. Only a couple of days left if you want to snag a plushie for yourself.
Browsing past projects led me to QFRIENDS STORE (Japan), a small Japanese brand with some super cute characters. I’m especially fond of Doro Bear who has heart paw pads, starry eyes and a little bow tie!
This Bearnana keyring plush by Mochi Bear Studio (US) is probably top of my wish list right now and very affordable. There’s more plushies too including stegosaur musubi and a happy bowl of pho.
I remember Bellzi (US) back when they were just a little Etsy shop and it’s great to see how they’ve grown over the years. There’s so many cute animals to choose from, and most come in multiple sizes to match your budget.
Kimchi Kawaii (US) is another long-time SCK favourite and the shop is full of plush inspired by animal/food puns. There’s a lot of cats and bunnies but I really love this Watermola. They also have a new Kickstarter launching soon for new additions to the Purrista Pawfee family of cat-themed drinks & treats.
If you love sea creatures – and especially sharks – you probably have some pins by Mahoukarp (US). Norin is now creating plush too including some happy sharks, whales and narwhals. The newest designs have sold out on pre-order but you can buy older designs or follow on Instagram to find out about restocks.
I have been planning this post for a while but kept pushing it back as I wanted to include these super sweet bear plushies by Fujibee (US). Unfortunately, they keep selling out immediately! More are on the way though – in lemon, strawberry, peach and lavender – so follow on Instagram to make sure you don’t miss out.

Having visited Japan five times, Marceline is enormously inspired by all things Japanese and especially loves bunnies, space and any kind of food object with a happy face.
