TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes which are available now – look out for a special discount below!

TokyoTreat – New Year’s Treatings

Celebrate the new year with TokyoTreat’s fun and exclusive snack box filled with Japanese treats that are perfect for sharing with friends and family. There are 14 different sweet and savoury items, including a full size bag of KitKats, drink and instant noodles, plus a colour booklet. 4 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians, including the ramen.

My Favourites

  • Strawberry Chocolate Cake KitKat – glad to see these back as they’re so rich and chocolatey with a lovely strawberry flavour.
  • Matcha Au Lait – surprisingly creamy for a powdered drink mix and not bitter at all.
  • Daruma Peach Gummies – they look just like tiny daruma dolls with a strong fruity flavour.
  • Hokkaido smoked butter chips – not a flavour I’d have bought but tasty and very buttery.
  • Good Luck Taiyaki – the classic chocolate-filled wafer fish with special New Year packaging.

Sakuraco – New Year’s in Japan

Experience the tastes of New Year in Japan with a Sakuraco subscription box full of locally made, traditional, authentic, and artisan Japanese snacks symbolising hope, luck, and prosperity. This month’s box includes 13 different food items including full size bags and extras of some snacks, plus 2 yuzu sencha tea bags. The exclusive homeware piece is a handmade Nishijin-ori fabric coaster in a random design. 3 items are not vegetarian.

My Favourites

  • Plum Kohakuto – pretty flower-shaped almost-liquid jelly candies in a sugar shell.
  • Yuzu Sencha – I love yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit) and it works well with the green tea for a warming winter drink.
  • Soft Niigata Okaki – soy sauce-glazed rice crackers that you microwave until warm and chewy. Very different!
  • Strawberry Daifuku – so soft with a sweet strawberry flavour, and loads in the pack.
  • New Year’s Senbei – large crunchy sweet and savoury snack with cute snake packaging.
