Good news for kawaii fans if you’re near London or planning a trip in the next couple of months as there’s a new exhibition in collaboration with Sanrio, including a pop-up ARTBOX Cafe.
CUTE is a major new exhibition at Somerset House exploring “the irresistible force of cuteness in contemporary culture”. That includes works by over 50 artists, culturally significant objects from the history of cute music, fashion, toys, video games and social media, plus a games arcade and more.
It definitely looks like a cool experience with lots of super cute stuff to look at and interact with including some of the history of kawaii, manga, Lolita fashion and Hello Kitty. If you want a better idea of what’s inside, BUDDYWOOD has a great video.
The extra exciting part is that they’ve teamed up with ARTBOX Cafe for a cute coffee shop themed around Hello Kitty & Friends. Rather than the full meals and desserts of the main cafe in Brighton, this pop-up has cakes, savoury snacks and drinks, including lots of vegan and gluten free options. You can get a peek in their Reel.
CUTE runs until 14th April at Somerset House, London. Tickets cost £18.50 and should be booked in advance online. An exhibition ticket is not required for the coffee shop but queues are likely at busy times. Let us know if you visit!
