Sanrio Loungefly Bags Review With Very Neko

Posted on June 7, 2021 by

I’m sure all kawaii fans have fallen in love with a few Loungefly bags over the years, as they’re always so cute and include collaborations with some of our favourite characters. Since Loungefly is is a higher priced brand, it can be difficult to know whether they’re worth investing in, so when Very Neko offered to send me some Sanrio bags & wallets to review, I knew it would be a great chance to find out!

Sanrio Loungefly Bags

Very Neko is an online store for pop culture accessories, clothing, anime figures, Funko Pops and more. You’ll find lots of licensed products from brands like Sanrio, Disney, Pusheen, Nintendo & Star Wars, and there’s exclusives too. Very Neko generously sent me 5 items from the Sanrio x Loungefly collection so let’s have a good look at each piece. There’s a discount code for you at the end too.

My Melody Flower Field Crossbody Bag

Let’s start with my favourite! I’m not usually a big My Melody fan but I do love bunnies, pastels and flowers. The all over flower pattern is so cute with My Melody peeking out here and there. The big flower is a magnetic clasp that makes it easy to open and close the bag, and inside there’s cute patterned lining and a zipped pocket. It has a real designer handbag feel but much more kawaii of course. I’ve been using this occasionally and it’s a great size for every day but I find the metal chain gets a bit uncomfortable if worn crossbody. I’ll probably use it more as a special occasion bag worn on the shoulder – it will be so cute for summer events.

Hello Kitty Watermelon Mini Backpack

I posted about this fruity Hello Kitty collection on SCK when it was released so it was great to finally see one of the pieces in person. I love an animal/food combo and Hello Kitty looks super kawaii as a watermelon! As with all the items in this post, it’s made from a faux leather that feels thick and hard-wearing, and is easy to clean. There’s lots of great details, like the embroidered face, 3D ears & bow, printed lining, adjustable shoulder straps, carry handle, and a double zipper for quick access. For a mini backpack, there’s still plenty of space inside with 2 side pockets and a large front pocket. You won’t fit something like a laptop in there but it’s big enough for everyday items.

Hello Kitty Cup O Kitty Crossbody Bag

I initially thought this was a slushie drink or popcorn bucket but of course it’s a cup noodle! The colours do feel a bit more ice cream parlour but I love them so I’m not complaining. The drawstring fabric interior is so colourful and the outside has lots of embroidered and appliqued details including a little chopsticks charm, plus a long removable shoulder strap. This is definitely a novelty bag and the large cylinder shape isn’t that practical for every day. However, it would make a really fun accessory for comic cons with tons of room inside to stash your purchases and snacks.

60th Anniversary Hello Kitty Flap Wallet

This wallet is so pretty and makes me wish I was back in Japan. It features Hello Kitty in kimono, traditional Japanese patterns in a bright pink & red colour scheme with embroidered details. Inside there’s loads of pockets for cards, cash and ID, plus a zipper pocket for coins. If I didn’t already have a kawaii wallet I would start using this immediately. Instead I’ll keep it for travel when I have more things to carry with me.

I’m so glad that Sanrio USA have made Chococat part of their main gang again as he had pretty much disappeared over the last decade. I’m still a fan and this wallet is too cute. It’s made of a softer faux leather, that’s almost like suede, with appliqued face, ears and whiskers. It folds out to reveal lots of pockets and card slots with lovely colourful lining and even a little embroidered fish. There’s also a small zipped pocket on the back. My only concern would be if you’re used to opening your wallet like a book, as anything in the accordion pocket would fall right out!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of all the bags and wallets, and loved all the cute features. You can absolutely understand why the prices are higher – cheaper brands don’t have all the pockets, embroidery, appliques, patterned lining etc. The materials feel very thick and hard-wearing so I’m sure they’d stand up to many years of use. If you fall in love with a Loungefly bag or wallet, I would say it’s definitely worth saving up for. At Very Neko prices range from around £35/$45 for a wallet to £75/$75 for a backpack.
