TokyoTreat & Sakuraco Snack Box Highlights

by

TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes, both themed around Tsukimi, Japan’s moon viewing tradition. They’re available now – look out for a special discount at the end!

TokyoTreat – Moon Fest Celebration

The Japanese tradition of moon-viewing is celebrated by TokyoTreat’s Tsukimi-themed box, bringing the flavours of autumn straight to your doorstep. Each monthly box is filled with limited-edition sweets, chips, noodles and Japan-only treats that you won’t usually find outside of Japan. This month there are 13 different sweet and savoury items, including a full size bag of Premium Hi-Chews, instant veggie noodles and a matcha drink, plus a colour booklet. This is a good one for vegetarians as only the Hi-Chews aren’t suitable (though there’s also a random bonus snack, which may not be vegetarian).

Marceline’s Favourites

  • Plum Hi-Chews – these premium Hi-Chews are softer and juicier than the usual square ones with an intriguing, almost perfumed, plum flavour.
  • Parmesan Potato Sticks – I was already a big fan of these snacks that look and taste like real potato, but adding parmesan makes them even more addictive.
  • Moon Harvest Cookie – the colourful bunny design makes this stand out but it’s also a nice crisp buttery cookie.
  • Sasha Rich Strawberry Chocolate – the strawberry flavour isn’t too artificial and the intricate criss-cross layers give it a nice texture. The packaging makes it feel very fancy too, and you get a whole box of them.
  • Sweet Potato Wafer Rolls – These are so pretty with a purple and orange striped design. They taste good too with crisp wafer and sweet potato cream. They’re split into 2 packs so you can save half for later.

Sakuraco – Autumn Moon Festival

Experience a traditional Japanese Tsukimi tea time with Sakuraco’s Autumn Moon Festival box. Each monthly box contains 20 traditional seasonal sweets, Japanese tea, and an exclusive homeware item – all supporting local makers across Japan, plus a colour booklet. For this month’s box, there’s mochi and rabbit-themed snacks galore, plus golden roasted hojicha tea and a beautiful Tsukimi rabbit coaster. Only 2 items aren’t veggie-friendly.

Emma’s Favourites

  • Golden Roasted Hojicha – Hojicha is my favourite tea, so I knew I was going to love this. It’s rich and nutty and the perfect accompaniment to the sweet snacks in this box.
  • Usagi Manju – The cutest manju in the shape of a bunny and it has a delicious subtle peach flavour infused into the white bean paste inside. Really delicious.
  • Tsukimi Arare – Simple but superbly crunchy and buttery, featuring a kick of pepper. A great savoury treat and I love that they’re crescent moon shaped too.
  • Setouchi Lemon Ikaten – Setouchi lemon holds a special flavour space in my heart and these snacks are absolutely delicious. I’m not normally a squid snack fan, but the kick of intense lemon really rounded out the fishy flavour.
  • Yuzu Kinako Mochi Senbei – Yuzu is another favourite of mine and these melt in your mouth senbei are just divine and have a potent yuzu taste. They’re slightly sweetened by the kinako, but the citrus is definitely the defining flavour.
