TokyoTreat & Sakuraco Snack Box Highlights

TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes which are available now, themed around Autumn & Halloween – look out for a special discount at the end!

TokyoTreat – Snacktacular Halloween

Trick or TokyoTreat? There’s really no choice when their Halloween box comes jam-packed full of terrifyingly tasty treats and limited-edition spooky seasonal snacks. Each monthly box is filled with limited-edition KitKats, specialty-flavoured Japanese chips, seasonal treats, and occasional Japanese sodas that are only available in Japan for a limited time. This month there are 14 different sweet and savoury items, including a full size bag of KitKats and instant ramen, plus a colour booklet. 3 items in this box are not veggie-friendly.

Emma’s Favourites

  • Apple Pie KitKats – I was so surprised at how well this captures the essence of an apple pie. Seriously fruity and full of spices, just like you’d expect, but the white chocolate adds another flavour like that from vanilla ice cream or custard, which is the perfect accompaniment.
  • Spooky Spicy Ramen – this ramen definitely has a kick, but the broth is tasty and the noodles are bouncy.
  • Halloween Custard Cake – moist, delicious cake with a creamy custard centre. I wish there was another one!
  • Tabekko Trick-or-Treat Biscuits – these buttery biscuits are incredibly moreish and I wanted to eat them all in one go.
  • Ghoul-icious Garlic Chips – these are crispy and garlic-y, with a hint of sweetness and a slight kick. A really great snack.

Sakuraco – Nikko’s Autumn Splendor

Experience the beauty of Autumn in Japan with a box of Sakuraco snacks celebrating the colours and flavours of Nikko. Each monthly box contains 20 traditional, authentic, and artisan Japanese snacks from local snack makers across Japan, including Japanese teas, a special Japanese tableware item and a full colour booklet. For this month’s box, there’s seasonal flavours like sweet potato, chestnut and apple, plus Autumn Sencha tea and a cute Neko Furoshiki cloth in 1 of 3 colours. 2 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians.

Marceline’s Favourites

  • Momiji Manju – beautiful maple leaf-shaped cakes with a red bean paste filling that took me back to a perfect day on Miyajima where you can buy them freshly made.
  • Apple Sweet Potato Cake – not a combination you might have considered but this is a lovely soft and sweet cake with chunks of apple inside.
  • Sweet Potato Yokan – this is like a firm jelly with a melt-in-the-mouth texture and you’d never guess it’s made from sweet potato.
  • Nikko Yuba Chips – incredibly light snacks made from soy milk and simply seasoned.
  • Autumn Arare – a very pretty mix of savoury rice crackers, including maple leaf shapes. I added in the miso-covered peanuts for even more variety.
