A happy new year to you all from everyone at SCK! We hope 2025 will be filled with cuteness, happiness, colour and creativity. It’s the year of the snake, which is not one of the top kawaii animals but our favourite characters have done a pretty good job so here’s some picks.
My favourite is HAPiNS (JP), who have lucky boxes for both the Fuku Fuku Nyanko cats and Hannari Tofu. Only the plushies have snakes, though there’s probably some more in the mystery items. I got the 2021 cats box (which also includes a guide to ordering internationally) and thought it was great value. I’m quite tempted by the Hannari Tofu box just for that incredibly cute wearable blanket!
I’m not too keen on Sanrio Japan‘s mini plushies (bottom left) but the snake scarves are cute and they have some fun stationery too. Sanrio USA has done a bit better with Hello Kitty (top left), though it’s not immediately obvious it’s a snake. So it’s up to Kidrobot (US) to save the day with a very cute Hello Kitty plush with removable hood. A Cute Shop (TW) also have the full range of Sanrio lucky bags for 2025 with a plush, tote bag, bath towel, charm and more.
I already showed you the Rilakkuma plushies but San-X (JP) also released some special new year plush with Sumikko Gurashi too.
None of the Japanese shops above ship internationally but you can use a forwarding service or most of the plush are available through VeryGoods who ship worldwide. They also have new year items from Disney Japan, Starbucks and more.
