The votes have been counted for the 2024 Sanrio Character Ranking and the winners announced! Let’s check out the favourites and look at some cute products. Some items are available from multiple stockists so use our shopping guide to see if there are other options near you.
Chupa Chups plush – JapanLA (US) / Drawstring bag – Meccha Japan (JP)
Congratulations to Cinnamoroll who keeps the number one spot and even increases his popularity with 11 countries/regions picking him as their favourite. If you’re a fan, there’s lots of cute new things to show your love.
Melon pan pouch – Meccha Japan (JP)
Pochacco made a surprise leap into the runner-up position and took the top spot in South Korea. Since it’s an Olympic year it’s the perfect time to see the sporty pup get more attention.
Plush notebook – Claire’s (UK) / Plush backpack – ARTBOX (UK)
Kuromi keeps the third place spot for the third year running, holding off rival My Melody and Hello Kitty herself. Kuromi was especially popular in the UK, Italy, Singapore and Hong Kong, who all voted her in second place.
iPhone cases – Sanrio (US) / Coach Jacket – JapanLA (US)
The rest of the top 10 is similar to last year with a bit of shuffling (and my personal fave Pompompurin losing the podium). Keroppi makes it into the top 10 for the first time, moving up from 14th to 7th, while Badtz-Maru drops out and down to unlucky 13th.
A special mention has to go to Hanamaruobake, a new character who jumped straight in at 14 on their first appearance! Hanamaruobake is a shy ghost who’s always watching you and will give you a reward for your daily efforts. There’s only a small collection at Sanrio Japan (JP- requires forwarding service) but we’ll definitely do a character introduction post once there’s more availability.
