Did you know we have a free weekly newsletter? You also get a monthly roundup of cute links and videos we’ve saved including character cafes, collabs, crafts and Japan. We haven’t been managing many Wednesday posts, due to some personal and health issues around the team, so I’m going to start sharing the links section here on the blog, though subscribers will still get them first, plus lots of videos too.

kawaii blogs
  • Happy birthday to Hello Kitty! The big announcement this year is the first ever Hello Kitty animated movie. Very few details so far but the Super Mario movies would give us some hope it will be worth watching.
  • Sanrio Japan have shared a peek at the new Sanrio store & cafe, opening in Harajuku, which will open in early December. It’s going to be a must-visit for kawaii fans with exclusive merch and food you can’t get anywhere else.
  • Kuromi is also getting a special cafe event to celebrate her 20th anniversary, with a Y2K gal model theme. It will travel to 4 cities in Japan between now and Christmas and all the food looks amazing.
  • This year’s Pokémon x Mister Donut collab includes fluffy Pikachu donuts and a cute Foongus donut, plus exclusive new merch. They’ll be available from 5th November until the end of the year so don’t miss your chance. We’ll make sure Emma grabs one while she’s in Japan.
  • Don’t forget, Cakes with Faces has a regularly updated guide to Pop-up Theme Cafes in Japan. There’s themes based around anime, gaming, art, fashion and more.
  • Twinkie Chan is sharing a free crochet pattern every week, inspired by the technical challenge in the current series of the Great British Bake Off. There’s some really cute ones so far.
  • The Tofu Cute Team have a sweet article about Nuikatsu, where you take photos of your plushies on wonderful adventures. There’s lots of photos and helpful tips.
  • The last time Sanrio and Sonic the Hedgehog had a plush collab it sold out instantly so be ready if you don’t want to miss the new one next week.
  • If you enjoyed our recent post on wearable plush, The Guardian had a fun article trying it out in My weird week of wearing shoulder pals. Really lovely that reactions were so positive – we all need more cuteness in our daily lives.
  • A little interview with artist & author Susie Ghahremani (of boygirlparty) about the process of creating her latest picture book, Rosemary Long Ears.
  • Hello Kitty is also is Friend of the Month at Sanrio – download your free printable calendar and look out for some special content on their YouTube and socials.
  • It’s a new month in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete and if you’re stuck for inspiration for the current themes, have a look at our posts with custom designs and Arlandyia will have a new seasonal guide soon.
  • New to our blog or not checked in for a while? The Best of Super Cute Kawaii is updated every month and collects our top posts including the most popular, our own favourites and original guides & DIYs.

Nintendo just casually announcing a big free update to Animal Crossing New Horizons (+ an extra paid update for Switch 2) for January was a huge surprise, and very exciting. I’ve been thinking about my island a lot so really glad to go back and have a reason to keep playing. Here’s a post we wrote about our islands back in 2020.
