by

TokyoTreat & Sakuraco create monthly snack boxes to let you experience Japan from the comfort of your own home with seasonal and limited edition snacks and drinks. We’ve teamed up with them to show you what’s inside so here’s a look at the current boxes which are available now – look out for a special discount below! (As Emma is in Japan this month, Nicolette stopped by to help me test the treats)

TokyoTreat – Japan Snackfari

Animal lovers are sure to love TokyoTreat’s latest fun and exclusive snack box, packed with wild treats in cute packaging to take you on a snack safari!  Each monthly box is filled with limited-edition KitKats, specialty-flavoured Japanese chips, seasonal treats, and occasional Japanese sodas that are only available in Japan for a limited time. This month there are 14 different sweet and savoury items for a wild snacktime adventure, including a full size bag of KitKats and instant noodles, plus a colour booklet. Only 1 item in my box is not veggie-friendly (gummies) but the chips and ramen have 4-5 possible flavours, some of which are not vegetarian.

Our Favourites

  • Salted Caramel KitKats – 2 tone chocolate & caramel with a really nice sweet & salty balance + motivational phrases on the packaging.
  • Terrific Tiger Konjac Jelly – multi-bag of snack-size mango pudding jelly that you can eat straight from the pack for a mess-free fruity treat.
  • Lucky Giraffe Mayo Curry Chips – very crunchy with a spicy curry flavour and a hint of mayo sweetness.
  • Vegetable Animal Crackers – thin savoury crackers with animal names stamped on top – including wild boar, pea hen and fur seal!
  • Melon Panda Cookie – adorable panda-shaped buttery biscuit that really tastes of melon.

Sakuraco – Savoring Osaka

Treat yourself or a loved one and experience the tastes and specialities of vibrant Osaka with a box of Sakuraco snacks. Each monthly box contains 20 traditional, authentic, and artisan Japanese snacks from local snack makers across Japan, including Japanese teas, a special Japanese tableware item and a full colour booklet. For this month’s box, there’s Fukamushi Sencha tea and a cute Shichifukujin Daruma Tenugui cloth. 2 items aren’t suitable for vegetarians (senbei/konbu).

Our Favourites

  • Osaka Mochi Castella – a popular souvenir treat of moist cake, chewy mochi topping and a printed Osaka Castle design on top.
  • Osaka Octopus Senbei – savoury crackers with a cheese filling plus cool packaging that made me want some hot takoyaki.
  • Kokuto & Sugar Houten – traditional snacks of fried dough pieces with a brown or white sugar candy coating that pair well with the tea.
  • Strawberry Cakes – super moist sponge cakes with a not-too-sweet strawberry cream filling – and you get 2 large pieces!
  • Pickled Ginger Crisps – light and crisp with a subtle spicy ginger kick that builds as you get through the pack.
